I wanna get some new slide gloves for downhill/freeride to replace my falling apart homemade gloves and so I ended up here.

I want to get the Mechanix Gloves with BlackTop pucks, but do I want to get the finger pucks? Rarely do I see someone DHing with finger pucks, do they really cause that much of a problem? I'm just worried about wearing down the fingers but I want the best performance. Any input?

i feel ya dude, there really arent many dh'ers with finger pucks, i have a palm puck, and one puck connecting my pointer and middle finger.. i like it b/c u still have 2 extra fingers to grab rail and such.. I'd say check out the "Phat Deanz" pucks... they offer different packages... my advice is to buy the package that includes all, including thumb(which is curved to form around ur thumb, its awesome), and test out which pucks you like using...

because most people grab rail when drifting,predrifting, etc.

with pucks on your fingers and thumbs there's no traction with your hand and the board....

also you can do early grabs and all kinds of other grbs with no finger pucks

I'm thinking of going with just the palm puck. If anything I can buy some finger pucks later on if I really need 'em

i don't know if this helped, but when i first began soft wheel sliding, the finger pucks helped a whole lot actually

i felt like it was just much more comfortable when learning because you don't hvae to worry about keeping your fingers from dragging

My old gloves had finger pucks which really helped, but I don't know if I'll be able to get by without them or not. Still I want the highest performance...

I find that fingerpucks help with softwheel slides too. Personally though if you aren't going to focus too heavily on sliding I find that fingerless are more comfortable for freestyle.

I just got the full pucks for mine. If you feel you need more grip on your board for grabbing rail, just take the finger pucks off...

I personally would recommend the finger pucks. I never slide without them. Lots of skaters slide fine with just palms, but the last thing I want to worry about when I'm sliding is where my fingers are. You can always take the finger pucks off

If you want more grip for grabbing rail, put some gnarly grip on the underside of your board... a strip where you grap will do wonders. Better yet, add a small plastic rail!

I'm not here to start any drama or say this puck is better than that puck, etc. Truth of the matter is that no one puck is the best in every situation... it completely depends on the pavement, your riding style, your wheels, etc. That's why I offer three different materials. you wouldn't bomb a mountain pass on slide-a's... why should your pucks be any different?

In all honestly, most every slide puck on the market is the same. BlackVelvet, Phat DeanZ, Darkspeed, MudSlide GreenHorns.... it's all just UHMW-PE. They're all going to last forever and slide very similar. The biggest difference between them all is the color/shape! pick your preference. I like round pucks because they are easier to rotate and fit more naturally in my hands... but that's just my opinion

NOTHING compares to mudstones for tech sliding. Nothing. Such a fast slick slide, epic bevel so you don't catch edges, and they last longer than delrin. Win!

I started with mechanix, green horn palm, thumb and finger pucks. Used them mostly for tech sliding.

Then went off to do some lovely DH freerides and racing in both Europe and the UK. Just took the finger pucks and thumb pucks off.

Now, due to my dodgy technique and a few nice crashes, I am now missing a couple of finger velcros and there is a SMALL hole in one finger one each glove. That's about 9 months of use. I haven't used the finger pucks on those gloves since. Still fully protective and rad. If the finger holes got bigger I'd probably wrap them in duct tape which would then make them basically like new protection wise.

I got some more glove for tech sliding and use the finger pucks but no thumb puck anymore, am still yet to tear or wear the thumb area.

So it's all up to you really! The mechanix seem to last well even with no finger pucks, they keep their structure too, even when lightly torn, so repairs are easy. I'd still reccommend finger pucks for tech sliding cos your fingers end up on the floor a lot more, but if you;re on soft wheels go with just palm for more flexability.

The most versetile package would be to get full fingers/thumbs and then experiment with them on and off and see what you prefer. Hell that extra bit of velcro on the fingers is like an extra layer of protection to wear through before you destroy your hands!
