That 'up and down' section on your site was great to see.. some similar ideas on there to what I'm working on.. but nothing fast.. and mostly overly complex.

Parallel stance is also less aero..

Even muscle usage isn't a top priority (just skate switch).. but it definitely gets me thinking in some interesting directions..

There are retrofit shoe soles out there, specifically for foot braking.. but they're made out of the opposite of slide material.. I think you glue them on.

@daniel m
I briefly described an idea a couple posts back that would be a potential use for slide material on your soles.. The ideal material would slide very well in one direction and grip well in all other directions (sort of like a rollerblade).. This would allow you to push a skateboard faster and more efficently (as well as basically rollerblade, or run and slide).

No reason you couldn't attach a handle.. There's a legendary handled slide puck somewhere in the hills of eastern CT.. being wielded by a sidewalk samuri.. The master slide puck..

Mainly I'm just coming up with secondary uses for the slide wheels for after they flatspot. They can also be cut down in various ways to make decent glove pucks.

Never made or used soap shoes.. (plastic concavity in the sole for doing grinds).. but I've done a lot of freestyle walking.. and also breakdancing.

It's so low-friction that it wouldn't cause you to footbrake at all. That's why people use roger brothers' brake soles, or cut up tire.

I had an idea that could work or just be interesting. I know you made UHMW wheels. What if you just had blocks where the wheels were?

Default Re: kraffft work

So I finally got paypal set up.

PM to place orders or arrange custom work.

65mm UHMW slide wheels are available.

$32/set.
$40 with bearings and spacers installed.

For a limited time your first flatspot is free. Get a free blemished fifth wheel with every set.

They're definitely not for everyone, so I'm going to do my best to convince you not to buy them..

The most important points are:

THESE ARE DEDICATED TECH SLIDING WHEELS. They are not good for cruising, dancing, pumping, dh, carving, or even most stand up slides.

YOU NEED FAST PUCKS TO GO WITH THESE. Ideally delrin. With regular UHMW pucks your hands are going to slide slower than your board, and always end up trailing behind it.

YOU WILL FALL MANY TIMES BECAUSE OF THESE WHEELS. Especially when trying these for the first time, you will be so much happier if you are wearing at least knee pads and heavy clothing.

Aside from these warnings, if you like hands down sliding, these offer more slide than any other wheel, while still having the tiniest bit of grip to keep them acting like wheels at all. I'm psyched to see what people can do with them!

More info and videos to come, but I wanted to make the announcement for the folks that have been waiting on these..

If you're in the region try em out at wheelabrator this Sunday.

Yeah, the nice part about putting a chunk on the (top) end of a SUP stick is that you could use it for pushing when you wanted and then flip it over for fancy slide action....

Don't think I posted any info on number 1 in this thread yet.. it's been in some videos though.

Had wanted to try a smaller version of the same idea since I finished the first one.. Except the rails are 1/4 inch higher this time (since they hadn't caused any problems yet at the shorter heights).

This one took about an hour to make including one coat of urethane. Material cost was around $8 (1/2" baltic birch). This design is extremely rigid though, so it could easily be made out of cheaper wood.

I'd be into trying something more like a skate train.. where the person in front steers and everyone else just trails behind sitting on dollies.. But I probably just need to go sledding.. 2009/10 Winter 'to do' number one: Acquire a large billboard (the kind that's basically a heavy vinyl tarp).. and get as many people as possible to ride it down a sledding hill together.

It's definitely nice having the hand held puck be radially symmetrical (like the air hockey paddle).. especially if you're just using one puck and switching hands a lot. (I tried some asymmetrical designs first)..

The Brad Edwards tip reminded me of this thread:

alternatives to slide gloves?

Here's a summary (through page 6):

-this:
Click the image to open in full size.
-plastic bottles- gatorade, fancy water.
-round rocks for glove pucks.
-work gloves with duct tape wrapped around them.
-trash can lids.
-bandanna wrapped around hand.
-tin cans.
-rocks.
-milk crates (sk8norcal posted some good videos of this).
-wood block.
-manual hand sander/sanding block with the cutting board or whatever on the bottom.
-slide pucks onto the wrist portion of hoodies with thumb loops.
-leather gloves (plain).
-street hockey pucks.

Speshl is pretty much right about this one.. I still might try it some time.. cube wheels would just look so great..

~2.5" dia UHMW is plenty strong.. it's just heavy. I agree wood would be good. also fiberglass.. High quality long tool handles are the best readily available thing I can think to use.. or a freshly cut sapling.. ash/maple/birch/oak around here. Less than $100 shipped.

any increase in drag for parallel would be minimal at the speed guys are going on the flats...

one thing I don't like about LDP is that its one-sided....
it would be great if I can jump into switch stance pumping,
but very few skaters can pump switch..
