This thread is full of great ideas, they may not all work but this is how things get invented. Who would have ever thought of screwing roller skate wheels to a piece of wood, that waste of time became a skateboard. Below is a pic of a concept that became an iPod, wast of time? Anyway, the sliding dumbells are brilliant! You should patent some of this stuff before you get ripped off.

Measured out a mile track today. Same dead end industrial park road, close to flat, relatively smooth and straight. You travel north for about half a mile then there's a rotary that sends you back south to where you started. Having a loop course helps eliminate possible slope and wind advantages.
The start/finish line is within view of this nice piece:

(Got a real stopwatch for 8 bucks)
Deck repair:
Drove over one of my boards this morning.
Spent two hours so far fixing it. Carpentry is done. Epoxy/glass tomorrow. Full write-up tomorrow.
