Gopro vs Contour
I was thinking of getting a video camera for longboarding, and was wondering what you think is better; The Go pro hero or the contour roam
Im open to other suggestings, but im trying to keep it at around 200$ max

Re: Gopro vs Contour
I like the contour, part of that is the company is local. Last time I had an issue I drove over there. I also like the form factor of the contour.
I can't comment too much on the Roam but go pro handles the sun better (literally if you are pointed at the sun) and I believe it handles change of contrast better (you know going through shadows if you are riding in the forest)
One advantage a goPro has is you can get it in Best Buy and other stores. I've only found contour online or a good camera shop.
They both have some great mounts.
GoPro has a video back you can get.
It seems that the goPro is more popular with the standup crowd. Means you might be able to borrow a mount if you need it.
I don't know what the Roam viewing angle is, but I prefer the contour HD viewing angle over goPros. GoPro tends to flatten the run out a bit, makes the hairpins look less hairpiny

Re: Gopro vs Contour
check out the Drift HD - It has a built in monitor, so unlike the go pro - you can see what you are looking at. you can also turn the lens 180 degrees, so you can mount it flat or sideways. it can also work with go pro mounts. I never heard of drift before I got one as a gift - and it really love it.

Re: Gopro vs Contour
Its all about the Replay!
Their newer 720p camera should be coming out soon for $199-ish.
Its about the size of those cheap-o LED flashlights that harbor freight occasionally puts out for free.
The stupid thing about to go-pro is everything cracks, and the lens sticks out farther than any thing else, so its always the first thing to get mauled by the road. We went through 4 cases, and two lens kits before we just called it quits and sold the thing.

Re: Gopro vs Contour
I`ve used both then bought a contour. Both decent cameras, but the reassons why I got the contour are:
lighter-it may not seem an issue at first, but when yo have it at the end of a meter long pole it plays a role. It is easyer to balance it, and not throw you out of ballance. And having a gopro on you halfshel means that it will keep slipping down on your eyes. contour, you just duct tape it to the top or side.
format/rotating lens-I don`t even use much mounts, I just duct tape it to whatever, and the adjust the rotating lens. When we skate I pick up the first branch, dust tape it to it and away we go.
video-I actually prefer the no so saturated footage of the contour, because this makes it easyer to do color corection afterwards.
price-I bought it when the roam came out, so they were blowing them out everywhere.

Re: Gopro vs Contour
I just found out that contour roam does not do 60fps, which I think is a must for skating. Go for the contour+ or save some cash and get the older version contour HD.
