Default Baltimore City Residents

I go to school in Baltimore. I saw a few posts out there with mixed results, I'm looking for people that live in the city of Baltimore and are looking to do some cruising, garages, or general chilling to combat the boredom of school or the city. Anyone actually live in the city proper? Anyone want to make a group or meet up with some kind of regularity?

It's too bad I moved. I am in Vancouver now but I lived in Baltimore for the last 9 years. I just moved here in January. I would totally skate with you man. Just be careful of where you go. Also don't skate down at the inner harbor because the Baltimore Police are not friendly down there. Check this out.
This vid made the news, but nothing was really done about it. Baltimore PD are very tough since the crime rate in the city is very high and they are backed up by the Mayor and Governor. I wouldn't skate in the city too much. Out in the County though you can have some fun.

Yeah man I saw that video before I moved to Baltimore for school and it scared the hell out of me. A lot of areas of baltimore are pretty nasty in terms of crime and pavement quality, but I'm convinced that skating campuses, garages, and hidden away places is possible. There have got to be some kids in the woodwork...

Well if you're ever in the baltimore area again, just drop me a line, haha!

I have lots of family there so I will visit again for sure. There are plenty of cool places to ride but you may just have to take the train or bus out of the city to the county. Check out Timonium, Towson near the College and Mount Washington. They are all very close and the city police aren't out there. The County Police are much better to deal with. Rule of thumb though. In Baltimore City or County.... If the sign says "No Skateboarding" or "No Loitering", you better obey it. The police there will ruin your day and not think twice about it.

It's a huge garage but it's got a really really weird layout. There are a few points where you can go fast but it's not like the typical garage. That and security there is 24 hours.

Whats happening,

Lets keep the specific locations on the DL and in PM's as those garages are getting hit regularly and the cops are getting tougher. Just last night in Towson 20 dudes got tickets which is a first for that area.

If you do ride those garages keep it moving and keep the noise down. Some skaters are on the verge of blowing out those wonderful garages.

problem is too many people loiter or go in too big of groups in garages. i ride garages all the time, but dont make a day/night out of it which i feel some people do

Our Crew has been riding those garages for 4 years now and have always done groups. One year there was even a News Years party in one. We know and are down with all of the local security (love ya Bull).

Problem is that there are certain garages with residential high rises near them and thats where all of the problems are. It getting to the point where so many new skaters are hitting them that the residents are getting tired of the noise every night. In the early years we were the only dudes out most weeks and we would come across 1 or 2 other skaters or groups in a summer. Now that the sport has blown up you have dudes hitting those garages every night almost. Most of these new "Longboarders" dont come from a skating background and havnt dealt with the law much and have trouble keeping things on the downlow.

The problem is not groups its noise.

Default Re: Baltimore City Residents

I live in Columbia, like 15 minutes away from Baltimore city. Some great spots right where I live, but almost no one to skate with. Hopefully that'll change once I get a car and can actually drive places to meet people.

That video is pretty notorious, and not all the cops act like that towards skateboarders, and it seems to me like those kids were probably acting a little bratty before the camera started rolling. The cops are generally no-nonsense though, and there tend to be a lot of them in public places, which is a good thing in my opinion. Baltimore and DC aren't exactly crime free.

I actually saw a guy in the inner harbor (where that video was taken) with a dervish the other day, so I guess there must be at least a few longboards in the area.

I haven't skated the streets of Baltimore, but there seem to definitely be some fun spots. Plenty of banks and the like. And garages. LOTS of garages. Most of them are filled up and closely monitored, so I dunno exactly how skatable they would be.

The only Towson garage I've skated is one of the hotel garages. It was pretty late at night though, and I kept quiet and stopped before reaching the bottom each run, so I didn't have any trouble with anyone. The mall garage looks like fun though, it's huge.

Overall, I tend to stick to skating more suburban areas. Generally safer and muuuch less chance of getting into any kind of trouble, other than with the occasional rent-a-cop.

Maryland has some great spots. And if you're in Baltimore, or anywhere near it, you HAVE to check out Lansdowne. Probably one of the top 3 best skateparks in the country for skating with a huge board and soft fat wheels. You don't even need a kicktail to shred that park to pieces.

And Cirquedaddy, where in Maryland are you at?

Ummm...I was at Boarding for Boobies in Bel Air and a bunch of the Stalefish guys were there, but other than that I haven't skated with anyone in Bel Air.

I'm in high school, by the way. You may be thinking of another Ryan.
