Anyone going to U of M want to start a longboarding club? Right now me and Graeson (don't know his member name) have a facebook group started and we'd like to start an official longboarding club. If that falls through then we'd be happy with just getting a crew together to ride with.

Ah man, my friends and I tried to grab a bunch of people's numbers for this too.

Our plan to start a club failed since no one wanted to do any paperwork.

I know one person who's going to MD and me and her boyfriend just got her into longboarding, so she's totally new to it, but she seems really enthusiastic about it, I'll tell her to look into this.

Awesome! I hope we can get a lot of people organized and learning this year. Last school year I felt that the only people who seriously rode were the people that I always rode with--what I mean is that after lots of riding around and talking to people, it seemed that us 5-6 people were the only people who didn't just go from class to class on boards.

But then again, that'd be unfair to say to any other skilled boarders at this school. I feel that there's a huge number of new boarders building up over this summer too, so we should help teach anybody new how to do more than just cruise.

It'd be nice to promote more helmet-wearing too. My fullface helmet is too cool not to wear all the time...but it's hot for this summer heat. Fall and winter will be great times for a fullface helmet.

Mu- Sweet! Tell her to search "UMD Longboarding Crew" on facebook groups and she should be able to find it. Or you could relay this message to her for me.

"Our first meeting/ride session will be on Sunday September 6th at 9:00pm at the front of Stamp. That's the first Sunday after school starts so hopefully people won't be knee deep in homework yet.

The goal of this get together will be to do a meet and greet, discuss meetings times for the semester, and to ride of course.

Message me if you can come! Even if only a couple people come its better than riding alone! See you in two Sundays. "

Alberty- Yeah man, it looks like we could potetially have 10 "serious" riders to ride with every week which would be sweet. And maybe we could convert some of the "to class only cruisers" as well.

And yeah...I have a feeling not manyof them will be decked out in protective gear. I just ordered 3 Bell Faction's though so I'll be good to go!

Suckily, she's probably too shy to really get involved which is a shame, but oh well. I was at the campus last weekend picking up a guy for band practice and it all looks so skateable, you guys better not take that for granted.

Spring semester is almost here for UMCP!

As always, our unofficial group is eager to ride. A lot of people got new slide gloves over the winter break and are finally learning how to slide. Too bad I sprained my ankle and can't do anything cool for a few weeks.

Check us out on Facebook; the group is called "UMD Longboarding Crew" but is open to anybody in the area who wants to ride--two of our regulars don't attend the school, as an example.

Anyone of any level is welcome. I encourage novices/beginners to ride with us--the only way to improve is to gradually do faster and more intense stuff, not just going to class. Learn skills that will help you not only get steez but also save yourself from hurt--pendulum slides, anyone?

As for you crazies who like to fight through the traffic and pedestrians while going 20+ mph, there are at least 5 people who are as crazy as you in the loop, find them not me please haha. I'm keeping it to sliding and dancing sessions for now.

Also, the UMD campus is near some neighbourhoods with some long hills, and just a 30-minute drive away from Lansdowne / Sandy Hills skatepark, a 1970s skatepark still in service today. Great for riders who want a park that's for riding, not just for flip tricks and grinds (though, there is a street skate section right next to it).
