Hey-o, I'm Joa. My summer is gonna be spent chillin' with my family in Bloomington, Indiana.
Longboarding is my passion, and I've recently been gettin' into Down Hill.
That being said ...
1) Anybody know of some good spots not too terribly far from there ?
2) Anybody wanna skate with me sometime ?
I love cruisin' around, dancin' it up, throwin' down some slides, and, of late, going down hills ... FAST. If any of that is you and you're within an hour or two of Bloomington, shoot me a PM or reply to this thread or somethin' and we'll go boardin' sometime.
I'm not currently down there right now but in the fall when school starts me and my buddy are coming down and we will be longboarding around campus and what not.
I go to IU... so I'm not down there right now but I come out on weekends
Try North Jordan by the wells library. if you time the stoplight right it's a perfect run down to that parking garage/traffic circle by the sorority
there's a couple parking garages on third and on atwater that can be fun... actually parts of atwater can be fun for cruising anyway. there's also the b-school parking garage on 10th & fee but it's not all that great
if you take 1st street from east to west it's the longest, smoothest run in bloomington. you have to blow a bunch of stop signs so usually we do it late at night when there aren't as many cars out.
also check out 17th going west between 46 and fee lane... again, it's busy sometimes but that's probably the fastest in the campus area.
other ones you could try... 10th street, 7th street (behind wright/teter/ashton)... i forget what the street it's called but if you go north on Indiana and make a right at the village pantry (before the train overpass) that's a pretty good hill
i can't think of much else off the top of my head. i live in cincinnati and i drive through Brown county on highway 46 all the time and it looks like there have to be TONS of perfect riding hills, but i've never actually tried stopping and checking it out
My bad for catching this so late, haven't been on the 'fish in a while. I've been in B-town all summer. There are a bunch of great places to skate around here, petey_pab covered a lot of them. There are some great places a little further south around Bryan Park at Woodlawn and Grimes. You can head south down Woodlawn or west down Grimes. On the north side there is 11th st. where is curves up north of Upland Brewery past the railroad tracks. If you want to try some absolutely crazy looking downhill there is the road that takes you to Lake Griffy just north of campus. I've never done that one myself but I've always wanted to.
Send me a P.M. if you're still looking for people to skate with. You might also want to check out the IU longboard group on Facebook:
