    Default Southern Fried Cone Fest

I see that Kentucky is in the Midwest section here on the forum....That includes Ashland, KY, home of the SFCF.
I also see that one of the upper Midwest's favorite slalomers, Tom Mangelsdorf, is an early signer-upper for that event, that is making the gears turn in my head. Mid/Late September, hmmmm......

Come on down. The Cone Fest is always a fun little race.

Also it's a good race for new and beginning slalom riders. Great atmosphere and all the riders are very friendly. This is a great first race or just a fun race in general.

Is Kentucky really a Mid-West state? Is it a Southern state? It is more of a boarder state. It's a little Mid-West and a little bit Southern too. All I know is that you see Ohio from the race hill. You could throw a rock and hit it. So come on down and throw rocks at Ohio!

Most definitely a road trip. I was at the PLD Cone Fest last year for day 1 and it was a great time. The stoke and scene is very close to the Wiggle War in WI. I will be working on bringing a van load of Northerners to KY. Need to check on my passport and the immigration laws to ensure we have no issues on the road trip

Kentucky Fried has now become Grilled right?

Go Green should be running about 6 deep, see you all there! First slalom race for me, 3rd for most of the rest of them.

Glad to see you're coming down again Mr Beavers. And another race with Mangles. This years Cone Fest is looking up.

Lisa - See if you can talk Dave and Steve to coming. And what about Marty? I still see him lurking about here on the 'Fish from time to time. Drag him along too.

Steve is seriously thinking of going to Antrim that weekend, Can/Am Slalom Championships.
I will work on Dave, and whoever else is in earshot.

We all need to figure out where to stay. I'm not sure if Lenny has an official hotel chosen yet or not. I think I stayed at the Hampton last time??? Burt do you remember where you stayed? It was nice and not too far out or expensive. It was pretty close to Sunday's hill too. Also it has a nice indoor swimming pool.
But seriously. We just need to take over a hotel and make it party central of sorts. Okay I don't party like I used to but it's always fun to socialize. You know what I'm sayin?

Recommendations would be appreciated. Will be traveling with the wife. When Katie and I went to St Louis we crashed at a Motel 6. Good enough for us. But Dew-Rhine says that isn't good enough for her. Doesn't need to be a 5-star hotel, but something nicer than a Motel 6. And before any of you wise guys pop up here - Super 8's are not better than Motel 6 just because 8 > 6.

Ashland Plaza is nice. It's right downtown. Right in the middle of the festival. Walking distance of Saturdays race hill. It's a little pricey. Although one year this was the hotel we got a deal on.

Last year Fairfield Inn was the one the organizers used but it wasn't cheap. Still a very nice place.

Myself and a few other skaters were at the Hampton Inn last year. It was nice. It close to the Fairfield. It's a short drive into downtown for the race on Saturday and an even shorter drive to the hill on Sunday. It's not far of I-64 and across the parking lot from a Wal-Mart.

I have stayed at the Days Inn and it was okay. A bit farther out and not as nice as the others I have mentioned.

I have considered the Knights Inn but it could be pretty ghetto. But I don't know for sure.

I need to get with Lenny and see if they have anything official picked out yet.

Goad camped last year. You'll have to ask him about the camp site. I think it was a little ways outside of town. Although by September the weather could be perfect for camping. It is an option. I have thought about doing the camp thing before but have yet to do it.

I'm hoping to attend Antrim. If I miss out on the sign up. then I'll go to SFCF.
The Wiggle War has gotten me all pumped up on racing. I'm going to try to make it to Hood River too.

Hoo-wee! Booked a room at Ashland Plaza. I will be there! I'm so stoked and pumped and jacked and excited and thrilled to be finally making my way to Ashland for this race.

Lenny said he has deal with Fairfield Inn. You call and say you're with the Poage Landings Day Race and you get a discount. Not sure how much though.
