No small thanks to yourself, Dave....
You are a great teacher, and I myself have been a recipient of your tutelage,
at the expense of your own skating time...

    Go Steve!!!

Bring home the bacon....(the vegetarian or figurative sort)

and the shadows keep falling when johnny comes marching home...

And here is some of that racin' that got Steve hooked. The Wiggle War provided the stoke for Steve to head out and compete against the big boys. Dave I believe this is the one you were looking for.

Read it, Live it, Ride it

Steve out there making it 501 slalom riders

New York Times Article on Slalom Skateboaring -

    http://www.nytimes.com/2009/07/18/sp...r=2&ref=sports

I will combine this article with the recent USA Today article on longboarding and sent a note to the Pioneer Press and Star Tribune. May help us get some local coverage and support for a local event. Maybe they can interview Steve for a local story!

I read the GS course was over 100 cones, and 7/8 of a mile long!
The winning Pro time was 80 some seconds, that is a lonnnng course....
Go Steve, I'm sending telepathic stoke!

    Great job, Steve....
You are going to be a good measuring stick, now...
the Twin Cities Slalom Crew can gauge their skating progress
against you at Dunwoody, Cordon Blue, etc.
Slalom skaters will come to our spots like gunslingers looking for "tedzepplin"

"you tedzepplin? draw your Pavel, or die in your Vans where you're at"
.....the sun is shining an' the kids are shouting loud
but you gotta know it's shining through a crack in the cloud
and the shadows keep falling when johnny comes marching home...

Thanks everyone. I got back this morning. I had a blast. Even if you don't compete, it's a good race to watch to see all the different styles and equipment. Everyone was terrific and gave me advice and lessons and loaned gear. Jamie Hart (top racer from the 70s and still skating strong) and JBH taught me how to work up to going down a hill that terrifies you. I almost backed out of entering the GS, but with their help I made it down the hill without any crashes. I was thrilled to just make it down the hill alive. Of course the top experienced racers felt the course/hill wasn't fast enough. wow!
Photo of Jamie with his famous tuck style.

The almost mile long GS hill and the TS hill were much steeper and faster than what I'm used to riding. Seven foot offsets on the TS felt like four feet because of the speed.

The GS was so long, I had to bring my lunch with for the ride down.

I just coasted down the GS. I started slow on purpose and didn't pump to gain speed, in fact I often reverse pumped to try to slow down. I was making the cones - I don't remember hitting any - but it was the speed that was freaking my boot. at the end, the run-off continued downhill and was the steepest/fastest section of the course - you had to drag your foot to slow down. I had never done that before. I learned how in a hurry.

It was an endurance test. Each day of the race we all baked in 95+ sunny heat from sunrise to sunset.

here are the places I got:
6th place in Master's Hybrid Slalom,
7th place in Master's Tight slalom,
15th place in Masters Giant Slalom.

More later. I'm too exhausted to write anymore.
