Hello all. I am from Avon Indiana, very close to Indianapolis. I was wondering if there are any good hills near central Indiana because I am tired of skating the same neighborhood hill every day. I was wondering If people from Indiana would post some sweet hills near here. If u don't know any hills just post some garages or parking lots or just post random crap. Even posting saying that you are from Indiana and know what it's like to live in a flat state will make me feel better. Thanks!

I dont need hills to longboard.
I live on the northside (86th and meridean), not much around here, a couple straight bomb hills, a rreally fun neighborhood with about 10 or so runs, and one pretty big hill requiring spotters to make the last corner
your best bet is to follow water, as many areas around rivers or creeks are hilly

you think you got it bad

Reporting in! I am new to longboarding so I was checking to see who else longboards in the area. Seems like I am a few hours north of everyone though...

I spend most of my time at Michigan State in east lansing. Check out the michigan thread, as that is where all the action is, and you live closer to us anyway
I grew up in Northern Indiana, Evansville is where it's at. The glaciers never made it this far South, and the Ohio River Valley has left the land fairly curvy. Still nothing compared to Missouri or Tennessee.
As far as areas around Indianapolis/Fishers, about 45 minutes north on I-69 there's the Ball State campus, and a nice long hill through a parking area that I bombed every day to work and class. It's just South east of the campus library, just across the street from their Arts & Journalism building. At the end of the hill there's one ramp from the drive to the sidewalk, hitting that on a short board was better than any cup of coffee at 7:45 in the morning.
But yeah, anyone from Evansville that wants to hang, hit me up with a pm. Or this thread.

DUDE! I'm from columbia city! we're in the Fort all the time hitting parking garages!
The folks over at Pavedwave are doing a 24-hour ultraskate on the 30th-31st of this month. Anyone interested in finding a decent route to work with and taking it on? Wherever we go, the flatter the better. This is a Friday/Saturday thing. It doesn't necessarily HAVE to be on this date, but the invite is on this day and extends to whoever wants to take on the challenge.

Sounds like fun. I have never really left my neighborhood when I ride. Currently I am waiting on some new parts for my board and I still need to make a pair of slide gloves. What garages do you hit up here in the Fort? Most have rules against skating in them, not that I usually follow those rules... but I do tend to try to keep a low profile when it comes to cops.

Oh right Im originally from Chicago but picked up longboarding in California, I use to like cruising the boardwalk for exercise and fun on Venice Beach, Chicago got the lake front to cruise, what does indianapolis have? I don't mind bombing hills either so where are the safe places to do all this?

Well, ummm... Even though I have lived in Indiana for 21 years now, I have only been to Indy 4-5 times in my life. As far as I know Indy is pretty flat for the most part. There are some bike trails in some areas but I guess most of the stuff to skate is parking garages and certain streets. You most likely will have to chat with someone from Indy on here to find exact locations but it seems most the Indiana people are rarely on here or don't check this thread...
Good Luck. Indiana in general is not the most supportive in alternative transportation from all the cities I have visited and lived in...

There's a skate park across from Marian College, but I've never skated it. If you want to bomb hills, head south about an hour to Nashville there are great hills; stick to the back roads, and watch out for the loose stuff at the bottom...there's a lot of little pea gravel since that's what they use for the shoulders. Just drive around and you will find some solid hills there
