you guys should all go in on a room at the radisson in bloomington, it has a pretty rad indoor waterpark (waterpark of america) that has a surf machine. then we could do this after the day skating:
7 people splitting a room for 2 nights? I'll sleep on a floor, I don't mind. That surf machine looks AWESOME!
Where would be a good location? What part of the metro area? We should figure that out because I think sometimes you can score deals by booking online. As a matter of fact I just found a 10% off web coupon for Motel 6.
oh yeah, I suppose the radisson would be hella expensive... I was thinking just the single rate, then piling everyone in.. but, that it sort of illegal I suppose
imo motel 6 is not fit to sleep on the floor.. nasty stuff. definitely go no lower than a super 8. personally, I'd recommend a holiday inn express (the ones by the airport usually have free beer/wine/chex mix happy hour).
just try to get as close to minneapolis (not north) as possible. we'll be skating around the UM campus(NE), uptown(SW) and downtown.
I don't know about a whole night, but you'll probably want to spend a few hours at the Hyatt next door to Loring Park. It has a great ramp and its just across the street from Rainbow Road!
Also, I will be in for only part of the weekend and would like to meet up wherever you are. would someone mind PMing me their cell so we can hook up? I will bring whoever I can get from my hood
Well I priced out a Motel 6 and it worked out to be like 17 bucks per person, and that was with 2 rooms. That hostel is spendy as hell.
lol, "spendy as hell"? come on man it's not even 10 bucks more and you get something to sleep on and are not out in the burbs. also, I'm for real about motel 6 floors - I have professional experience with hotels, specifically their floors. trust.
oh, and the hostel apparently has group rooms for like $80 or something.. just sayin

The hostel is like 30 dollars a night, whereas that motel 6 was 17 for both nights. Regardless of floors, I read some reviews and it was mad sketch. Just look at these glowing reviews:

We needed a place that accepted dogs and was reasonably priced. Our dog was better behaved than most of the guests we ran into. When we arrived a woman and her daughter were screaming obscenities at each other in the doorway to the lobby. The police were there but apparently not for that particular disturbance. We were assured by the desk clerk that this was not usual and that we would not be bothered by these people again. Hallways were dirty with stained carpeting; the door to our hallway was propped open with a dirty towel stuffed under the door. Our room was very small and the beds were in terrible condition, sagging and in general worn out. On our first full day there the maid did not clean our room, make the beds, empty the trash or leave fresh glasses. We had to make a request to the manager on a daily basis to get what should have been taken care of automatically. On our first night someone broke some beer bottles on the driveway which were never picked up and were still there when we left 3 days later. The so-called secure exit doors in the back of the hotel had broken locks so anyone could walk into the hotel. Management was aware of this and fixing the locks should have been top priority. The manager spent most of his time outside smoking instead of supervising his crew and making sure that the rooms were cleaned and re-stocked with towels, bath mats and glasses. Strange people were loitering in the lobby on a daily basis. If it hadn't been for needing a place that accepted dogs we would have left immediately. We have stayed at other Motel 6 properties that were totally acceptable so felt comfortable in making this reservation, however, I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

We recently stayed here for the sole reason that it seemed to be a safe area of town and we were in need of a location close to a business meeting the following morning. Looks can be deceiving. Prior to checking in, we dined at a popular franchise resturaunt only steps away and witnessed a blatant solicitation from what can only be described as very scary characters. Upon reaching the front desk, we were greeted by a security guard and clerk behind a bulletproof window. So much for ambience. My husband was asked to show his ID, and came out to the car because they required seeing my ID as well. After remembering the sight outside the local resturaunt it did not take long

We had a late dinner at a franchise sit down place only steps away from this hotel and were shocked to see a member of the world's oldest profession and her "boss" propositioning a guy.
Looks like Bry-guy snagged us a deal and a much nicer place. Aces!
ok... so I've got another group of DHers who can't make saturday morning but can do sunday morning. burt/everyone, would you be able to make it to calhoun tomorrow morning instead, then do the DH on sunday morning?

ok, tentative schedule is as follows-
Friday- Freeride, hairpin session, ramps (one with a wicked spiral). Meet at this gas station at 5pm:
1000 University Ave. S.E., Minneapolis, MN
I'm thinking alot of people (cough north dakotans cough) will be straggling in late, so I was thinking we'd keep things informal.
Saturday- DH practice runs starting at 9am, race at 10:00am. Most of you know the location, if you don't, we'll let you know at the friday freeride or pm me.
Slide/steezy hairpin drift comp at 5pm, meet at the same BP gas station.
Sunday - Push race around Lake Calhoun, meet at the main lake building, the one at
3000 Calhoun Pkwy,
Minneapolis, MN.
It has a big red roof. 10am.
Slalom at Dunwoody, 3pm.
818 Dunwoody Blvd
Minneapolis, MN 55403-1141
From Dunwoody Blvd, turn onto Aldrich and go up a block, it terminates right at the parking lot we skate at. Anyone under 18 needs a parental guardian to sign a waver.
ok, few other housekeeping issues-
the only safety gear that's going to be required will be a helmet with the exception of the DH- that will require slide gloves as well.
no entry fee.
if anyone has a push broom they can bring (or three), please post and let me know. If not, I'll suck it up and buy one, but then there's going to have to be a$20 entry fee
