Ohio!
Sooooo.....anyone from the cleveland area on here? I doubt it cause its the flattest thing I've ever seen. BUT seeing as I go to college there now (oberlin) I'm gonna be on the lookout for hills. So far I've found some good stuff in the northern part of the cuyahoga river valley, and want to venture further south. No one here at college longboards unless its to get to and from class, so I'm looking for people to come scout and ride hills with me, or even better, show me where the hills are. Sooooo, anyone here?

Re: Ohio!
Hey, that sounds awesome! Just give me a pm or whatever to tell me when you and your friends are planning to go skating and i'd be down to make the drive. Since I made my last post, I have found a good number of people who would be down to go drive to skate some hills. We could combine and have a huge group session.

Re: Ohio!
I'm from near Cincinnati, but the metro parks right outside of Cleveland would be good.

Re: Ohio!
I agree with Psi, I was raised there until I was six, then moved out to the Northwest, I go back there sometimes twice a year to visit family, so being there isnt even like I left. Ohio is nice to visit, but they have horrible road upkeep in most cases.
But yeah, the cuyahoga valley has some good hills, theres some good ditch riding near akron, some army damn project with an unused drainage ditch..which is also near the cuyahoga valley. Then there is the Ohio demons of downhill, which is a race in Columbus (I think, maybe somewhere else) the IGSA hosts a gravity race.
I'll check if you reply to this and I'll dig up some of this hill info for you.

Re: Ohio!
Agreed with all. I grew up in central Ohio. nice place to grow up but Im getting the hell out of the midwest as soon as im done with college. I live on OSU campus and the roads are horrendous, have taken a few bad spills due to major cracks in the roads.
This 'demons of downhill' sounds enticing Anti-trend, where could I get more info?

Re: Ohio!
The demons of downhill is an older race i dont think they do it anymore... but it was held in bainbridge Ohio (south of columbus) and it was held on a hill called "jester Hill" where you could supposivly reach speeds of 60 MPH Plus?!?!?! I did some research and have been wanting to make the drive down to check it out but havent had the time.... any been there and seen this beast?
BTW--- I am down to skate whenever!!!!! Just PM me or whatever!!
We took this trip to Garden Grove

Re: Ohio!
Jester hill has way too much traffic to ride on without it being blocked off. Drove there one day while I was living in Chillicothe.

Re: Ohio!
Yeah, metroparks have some good hills, I've found some fast stuff in some neighborhoods near the parks too. I'll be going back to school (Oberlin) early this year, like mid-august. I'll post about some sessions when I get there.

LDP = long-distance pumping, a style of covering great distances while skating that is wonderfully suited to flat places.
More at pavedwave.org - the soul of distance longboarding - LDP - long distance pumping

Re: Ohio!
Yep, live in Fairview Park, and I'm actually noticing that there are waaay more longboarders around here than shortboarders. In the last two weeks I've seen probably 10 different longboarders but I haven't seen one shortboarder. Wierd because I'd never even seen (probably just didn't pay attention) a longboard until I bought my own.
Has anybody bombed that massive hill which I think is on Chardon road way out East? Its absolutely massive (but completely straight) and is basically a giant dip so going up the other side of the valley will slow you down.
What about the hills in the Rocky River metroparks? Anybody have any trouble wit hteh rangers there?

Re: Ohio!
I haven't checked out Chardon yet, but its not that far, so I'll try to make it out there when I move back next fall. No problem with any of the rangers in the metroparks, I've even ridden past them, but if you do skate there remember always wear safety gear and be polite. Don't ruin the few good hills in the area.
