I forgot, I was going to try the same thing. Revenges carve bowls like crazy. I rode my 45 inch Arbor Blunt on Revenges at the Huntington Woods Bowl and was loving it! Mmmm, I might just go rip a bowl right after work.

[QUOTE=sAMOa;1297331104]We were skatin bigtime in the 70's in Michigan!
The Saginaw river, right by these juicy pipes! That's my bro with the helmet in the background. Smart Kid!

I love the old photos, keep them coming Mr. Yandall. Coincidentally I was just checking out Skogging on your website yesterday. I think learning to skog is going to be my spring skate goal.
I would be very interested in getting involved with setting up some competitions here in Michigan. Anything would be fun - outlaw race, slalom course, flatland trickery, etc... Do you still have any connections in Bay City? If so, lets get them in the loop.

As for more pics, I got tons on a drive that died that I'm trying to rescue.
Just to give you Michiganders a heads up why I'm even in this thread is because I have roots in Michigan back to the late 60's and left and came back and now just visit when I can. I have a bro that still lives in theTri-city area . I've lived in Bay City, Clare/Harrison, West Bloomfield, Rochester and Auburn Heights. Snowboarded / Sandboarded in Muskegon. Surfed at Grand Haven and skated Grosse Point. I headed up Skateboard USA and Endless Summer with their owners. Worked at Don Thomas Sporthaus in Birmingham.
I live in San Diego now and have daughters in Denver and Portland. My son lives with me and he's 18. Great transition street skater but he's hurt..as expected crazy f*x!
I traveled all over Michigan giving skateboard demo's with Pepsi in the late 70's. Flint, Pontiac and Detroit were the main areas. So with all that, you can see I can pass as a Michgander but that's only the half of it. My oldest daughter was born in Warren. She's 29 now and on her way to a Phd. My daughter in Portland is working with the largest router mobo patent holder while attending College for a Finance degree. She (and son) were born in CO so I'm also in the CO threads too. Will be more since I'm trying to organize contests there too.
I do web dev, unix server admin and am a geek for windows crap. I dabble with graphics and flash but mostly write backend systems(likie this one) for companies.
as for skogging... think of it as switch stance PUSH PUMP AND CARVE .
Skogging is just my brand and style of the movement. I'm also a Sports Bike rider. I love my 2 wheel 1000cc machines but this besides the point ! Good to hear you wanna get pedi-dextrous. Getting in the groove and getting the movement down on the flats is the goal!
I have a more advanced step where you simply hop/jump from side to side to switch feet but it's a bit hard on the body. I'm still trying to master it but my skogging site has the basic steps. like skiiing, you need to have a forward down the fall - line weight movement. It takes a while to get your internal gyroscope matching up with it but "baby steps" are key. The slower you start off and master it .. the better you'll get creeping up to where you want to be!
I keep getting more and more people figuring out that the best way to skog at the beginning is on astro-turf or golf greens(what else are they good for?) :P hehehehe
anyways, there ya are!
MEEEEEEESHIGAN!!! Here's a pic from the beach last week. Maybe it will help thaw the snow for you 'all!

It's where I live when I'm not at school and I'm always skating. Maybe I'm missing some hidden spots?!?! I'm down for some slalom and I know a few guys who would be down too. Light DH sounds great too. Anything really, I just want to do some stuff in Michigan! Let me know if there's ANYTHING I can do to help organize.
Ok remember, the last time I skated seriously (other than the Bay City Skatepark) in Michigan was back in the late 70's when I worked at the Don Thomas Sporthaus. Don Thomas is a patron saint for michigan skateboarders. dunno if he's even still around but his kids, Bob and .. should be. We put on a boatload of events out there.
This month is the ASR in San Diego and I plan to work it good. All we need are some good sponsors to supply the schwag and other goodies for the events. It's a question of pooling our resources together to make it happen. The infamous world traveler Greg Fadell is on our side so he needs to keep his head in this too.
I'm putting it together and I do have permission to use the Derby Downs in Saginaw for races. It looks like a great place but then we also have Bintz Apple Mountain in Midland. The only reason I key in on the Tri-City area because I do have hookups there. Skateshops, my bro and lot's of old friends. And with this thread and guys like you to help make it happen .. it will happen!
I'm working on it and I'm easy to find
stay tuned!

You might need a parent signature. Just call Modern and ask.

This thread is giving me goosebumps, so stoked. I am definitely familiar with the Don Thomas Sporthaus. It has moved to downtown Birmingham and is alive and well. I bought my first pair of Rollerblades there. Maybe I can talk to the management to see if they would be willing to sponsor and event. Keep us posted with any updates you have and we will start pounding on doors here in the Mitten. I am sure some of us can make some connections too.

Re: Michigan Longboarding!
WOW. Lets make this happen guys. Longboarding in Michigan seems to mostly a taboo topic among regular skaters. We need to get the sport out in the open, and spread the stoke to those who are unaware or tired of breaking ankles when gapping 20 foot stairs.
This is a big step in the right direction for making the scene happen, discussion. Now we need to just put it into action. Dates, venues, sponsors, riders, disciplines etc.. Any help or suggestions are needed from everyone in the mitten.
Chris, thanks again for spreading the good vibes man. A historical skater such as yourself is sparking ideas and motivation in those of us who have been seeking contests and gatherings that are usually too far out of reach.
