I love downhill as well long-boarding as well. My deck design that I'm currently marketing is a longboard in short board format and this is attained by radded/de-radded trucks with wheel size displacements.
I learned how to ski at Boyne Mountain. Spent tons of time skiiing Sylvan Knob(Gaylord.. another place with killer hills) , anyone seen Bintz's Bump(Apple Mountain) there might be something there, good old Pine Knob(be a great place to put up a downhill skateboard park for the off season and keep them chairlifts going) and what about Caberfae??? that place has tons of hills too!
Yep Michigan rocks for hills

Right on! Skated the little path going down boyne mountain last summer- super narrow and steep! Seems like you have some good conections, i would love to see a downhill event at any of those spots.

Ross didn't hit 38 on his Ceviche. I hit 38.4mph on mine (riding on Indy 149s) and Ross can verify. I was wearing a GPS watch and the wind was at my back. Ross was right behind me on his Evo. It was a prime day to go fast. I even sent a pic of the GPS screen as proof and was shot down. Conner is just jealous because he missed an epic day at the 'beek.
I say we try to hit Clarkston this weekend. I will ride even if it snows. I need new bearings anyway.

I have been thinking that for years. It would be fun to ride ski hills on a mountain board too, if they would allow it.

Sounds good. I would really rather ride some garages on saturday. The one on Tele and Square lake is really calling my name. We just gots to be uber stealthy when we sneak in. I promise my Jeep will make it this time.
Conner, do you have a fake ID? If so, you might be able to ride with us tonight.

I have my concerns as well, but so far the residents have been cool. Most of them slow down and watch as we cruise. I think we have had no problems because there are only a few of us and we don't ride there more than a few times a week (usually less). The police even smile and wave on occasion.

Re: Michigan Longboarding!
The first time I went there we were skating while a cop was issuing a guy in a car a speeding ticket. I'd pay $100 to know what was said in that converstion, because i guarantee the driver brought it up but the police didn't bother us at all.

Re: Michigan Longboarding!
Hey whats up everyone.
I'm brand new to longboarding, in fact I'm so new I don't even have a board yet. I've been wanting to get into it for a while and I'm sick of thinking about it...I'm ready to ride.
Anyways, I live in Kzoo in SW Michigan. Can you guys suggest any good boards to start out with? I'm a bigger guy 6 feet, 225lbs. I've been talking to the guys at Original and I'm looking at either:
Original Apex 37, Original Custom 35, Original Custom 45
The Loaded Vanguard and Loaded Dervish look pretty nice too.
I figured you guys would know whats best for riding around Michigan.
Thanks for any help and I hope to ride w/ you guys this summer.

Hey man, welcome to the fish. In terms of boards it really depends on what you want to do. Bomb hills, cruise around, dance, maybe a little bit of everything. Since you don't own any boards, are there any boards you have ridden? Originals are pretty different from anything else out there, and I'd definitely say try one out before you buy it. Also Loaded boards are pretty unique, but expensive, and there are some cheaper and comparable alternatives. If you can make the trek to East Lansing there are a bunch of us up here and we'd be happy to let you try any of our boards so you can try to get a feel.

Re: Michigan Longboarding!
It sounds like you want a flexy deck. I would suggest checking out Bustin Boards Bustin Boards Longboard Co. . They have some killer custom options and great customer service. Loaded boards are great, but they can get pretty pricey when you add trucks, wheels and bearings. There are tons of great deals on the classified section of this forum too. Let me know when you get a board and I will get a crew to come rip up the zoo.

Thanks man. I checked them out and really like the Complex, looks like a good size and great for all-around riding which I'm looking for. Any experience w/ this board?
I'm wondering what makes Original Longboards different than other boards. I was pretty much set on an Apex 37 and now I'm starting to second guess that choice. Any advice?
Thanks a lot everyone.

Re: Michigan Longboarding!
My first longboard ever was an original torpedo, road that thing everywhere, learned to cross step, and other boardwalking #### on it, hang tens are super easy because the trucks are so far to the front, downhilled on it, commuted on it, its a good board but once you get off that and onto another board you'll wonder why its so hard to turn! haha
I wanna sesh times ten this year. I'm in brighton Michigan and can get out to Lansing and Ann Arbor.
Anyone Anyone?
