Re: Michigan Longboarding!
I went and skated/scouted Cadillac with my friend the other day. We stayed on the hills right in town and didn't do a whole lot of exploring but thats cuz we we're having a blast on what we had. Theres a giant hill that half of the town is built on, and it has tons of 20-35 mph runs shooting down the frontside of it with lots of tough turns.
Most of them run west tho (into the wind) If we got a wind from the east we'd be gold. Theres one run that I think I could easily hit 40 on, but there's only about 70 yards of flat to run out before you interesect the main drag . I started about 3/4 of the way up the hill and slid before the bottom. I got to about 30 airbraking most of the time. I almost tried to gun it and hope for a green light at the intersection, But I wasnt sure if I'd have the balls to shutdown at 40 if need be.
I didn't see anything worthy of a world class DH, but theres a numerous 2 turn runs that hit about 30. Theres also a KILLER slide hill. Not even as long as russell, but way steep. Theres a "steep road ahead" sign at the top. I started at the top with my orange freerides, barely pushed for any speed, and 540's were easy steezy. A boss could prolly 1080 big wheels down this thing. A slide setup would almost be dangerous. You can spin endlessly until you run outta room.. It almost feels like you actually accelerate through your slides.
We didn't get to check out the Caberfae area, which looks promising, but we will next time.
EDIT: We had a Child Protective Services worker stop and talk to us for awhile. Great guy! He really wants to get kids and their families into longboarding, and he said many were interested, but strangely there is no where around there to buy a board. I think It'd be cool for us to introduce longboarding to local YMCA's, kids programs, and stuff like that. Maybe teach kid how to skate once a month or something. The kids on Jays street always try our boards/watch/conehead for us but their really the only kids that get exposed to it because its so remote. Just a thought...

+1 for hill scouting. I was out at caberfae during snow season, and it was for sure hilly, and barely any traffic either.
Wow, teaching kids at YMCA how to ride? That could do a LOT for the industry. I'd be willing to do it. I don't think we'd even need hills. And we'd have to do it right. I'm sure we could get like protec or someone to donate children sized helmets (or someone, i mean, bike helmets would work too) and i don't care if kids ride my boards, although i'd have to put marshmellows in. At the same time though i just like skating.
In terms of skating, today i think peter is out skating park and slide hill right now, and then i think we're doing a garage session tonight. Tomorrow I'm down for anything, but would really love to get some slalom on.

I'll be down for some slalom tommorrow.
Yeah, or if somehow we #### up our image and need a lot of good PR. Or if we ever have an event with a closed road we could invite them to come out and watch.

Checked the weather and looks like rain all day, hopefully it's dry for tomorrow. If it looks like it will dry up tonight we'll try to get something going.

If it's wet i doubt slalom will happen, but i guess i don't mind trashing some bearing in the wet somewhere

I'm down on skating in the wet again tomorrow, so let me know.
We forgot about longboard hockey. I will have my stick ready.

It was fun even though mother nature took a leak on us. We should have been sliding during the rain. I really need the practice. I'm ready to get a deck with Vicious grip and a nice slippery setup. Next time we should hit the park in Mason and some garages for sure. Panchero's was ridiculous. I am glad my burrito was made by the guy who wasn't a maricon (different kind of queso, if you know what I mean). Oh yeah, and burnt popcorn is a great air freshener depending on what you are trying to freshen up.
My Seismics were just dropped on my porch and I'm so stoked to try them out on the Gbomb!

I decided I'm taking the plunge and buying the GoPro Hero Wide and a Banshee Bungee. I have a feeling we're going to have waaaaaayyyyy too much fun with the bungee.
I saw the Bombsquad guys using the bungee. What if we had 2 of them? Can you say longboard drag racing??? I think I am about to throw down on a GoPro camera too. It seems like a great investment for all kinds of applications, not just sports.
