Sunday Nov. 8th there is an outlaw in Ancaster Ontario. Its a 3 hour drive from the border. So i dunno if anyone is interested in attending. But its a 4 minute long course, with a turn you may have to pre-drift. So if anyones down let me know and ill pass along more information.
Some of you guys from michigan should come out and represent!

Re: Michigan Longboarding!
don't think I can make MN on that short of notice, but please give us a heads up on events. I've got umpteen aunts/uncles in the Twin Cities (Blaylock Plumbing co. anyone?) that I wouldn't mind having an excuse to visit.

1) Cool little hairpin in a nice community. It's not really worth the drive but if we're in the area it's fun.
2) A couple metro parks, I wasn't able to go in them because they cost money but they look promising.
3) An 8% grade straight bomb, check it. I think in a draft chain we can get close to 50, more like 40-45.

Hell yeah kensington road. If you go farther north there is the GM proving grounds and that place would be heaven. There is also a cool spot to the east side of the proving grounds that has new pavement short steep drops and hard turns but not very long.

Re: Michigan Longboarding!
WARNING - LONG POST.
Colorado is home to the largest scene and most skilled set of riders in the world and I believe COSS, the Colorado Organization of Slalom Skateboarding, is largely responsible. COSS promotes slalom at a statewide level and provides an accessible race circuit for locals to hone their skills.
It would be awesome to have a similar scene in Michigan and I believe it is possible. So without further adue, I'd like to introduce the "Michigan Slalom Skateboarding Association", or MSSA.
Goals:
1. Have fun. This is always the primary goal when skating. Relaxed races like MIM and the MI outlaw provide reasons for riders from across the state to jam together and meet each other. I believe a relaxed circuit would do the same. Keep it laid back - bad sportsmanship and overcompetitiveness will be frowned upon.
2. Make slalom skateboarding more accessible on a local level. I believe the scene would flourish if riders didn't have to travel 6+ hours to experience a race.
3. Increase the skill level of MI riders so we can kick a$$ at ISSA events. Races provide a great learning environment for new racers, and experienced racers are more likely to push themselves in attempts to break specific times.
4. Promote the industry - the MSSA will increase the size of the slalom market and provide companies with a place to showcase their products.
5. Promote the Sport - Most people have no idea what slaom skateboarding is simply because they've never been exposed to it. At every race I've been to this year, Ive seen at least one spectator, street boarder, or longboarder take up slalom. More races equal more opportunities to expose people.
6. Encourage similar organizations to take root across the globe, helping to spread the sport worldwide.
7. Win some Prizes - Skating isn't about prizes, but everybody likes them anyway. We'll get circuit sponsors and have end of season prizes for top finishers, plus all of the racers will vote on random categories like most improved, weirdest wiggle, etc...
Layout:
- 8 races: (4 events, 2 races per event)
- 2 races (one HS, one TS) will be sanctioned as Main. 6 races (2 TS, 2 HS, 2 GS) will be sanctioned as prime.
- Top 5 scores will count towards final standings. Detailed Point System will be posted later. (somewhat similar to ISSA format)
- Events must be held on a Saturday or Sunday, not overlapping any North American ISSA event. Each event has two races, which must be held on the same day.
- Free to join for first year. This will be a testing year.
- Anyone can attend the events but you must be from Michigan to receive a score. Scores will be based on your placement among MI riders
- A board of directors will be elected after the first year, skill divisions may be added, a fee may be added to finance cones, start ramps and timers. 'Basic' level races may be added. Eventually anybody in MI, for a refundable deposit, will be able hold a 'basic' event in their own neighborhood using MSSA equipment.
Events:
Prime-
1. Madness in the Mitten - Sunday April 18th - HS,TS - Lansing
2. Michigan Outlaw? - August TBA - HS, GS? - West Bloomfield, Clarkston?
3. Available - interested in hosting? - preferably TS, GS - West side of state?
Main -
4. MSSA State Championships - August 15th - HS, TS - Lansing
It makes sense to use established events, since we'll all be together already. Would you MI outlaw guys (Conor, Pete, rest of the east siders) like to take the lead on an event and maybe coincide it with the DH?
We'll also be looking for someone to host the third Prime event, preferably someone not involved in Go Green, Bees Knees, or Team Gnarkadark. This leaves room for other people, organizations, and teams to become involved.
I realize there's about 10 slalomers in MI right now. We'll be lucky to have ten participants in our first year, but it could eventually turn into a nice little circuit. We could get lucky and have 50 - 100 people after a couple years... who knows.
What do you guys think?

Re: Michigan Longboarding!
some good ideas, and I wouldn't mind a few races, but I think starting our own sanctioning organization would be unnecessary and counter productive at this point. the scale you're looking at does look quite practical though.
maybe if some things go smoothly this year, and we end up with good cones/ramps/timers/spots etc than something like this may be good for the following season. I definitely want to hear everyones thoughts on the matter.
