I totally agree with tags more! Think of how much someone with a badass kick start would lead if we were doing dual lane runs with kick starts??? I mean if its single lane with just a timer at the first and last cone, then it really doesn't matter at all, but for dual lane, rollin is the most even way to start.
PS Dan, the hardwear will bend, but breaking it you have to be pretty epic at slalom (i havn't snapped anything to date! lol)

Tom/Ross, you do have a valid point. I guess I am just thinking back to my alpine ski slalom racing days. In that sport, the kickstart is crucial and can make or break the racer. That is because the racer hits the timer right out of the start gate and wants as much initial forward momentum as possible. It's all about raw power and a massive mule kick.
The roll in would indeed provide a more even start and put the focus on cone running skills. Is the timer at the first cone after the roll in?

What it always comes down to is the dudes who are confident in their pushing/footing ability are down on kick starts (e.g. myself) and people who want the playing field to be level like roll-ins. I'm down on either really.

i've just always been kinda bitter since i got beat on like a 20 kick start race because this kid was a cross country runner even though i caught up to him the entire rest of the race

I've seen it both ways, if the timer has false start detection they can be at the top of the roll-in. i think it's at the first cone more in a push start situation.

Tear it up in the Garage Circuit tonight fellas, that should be a blast!
I'm off to Virginia tomorrow and will be back on the 30th. Hopefully I will get to shred some nice beast coast hills while i'm down there. Maybe we can throw together an urban outlaw for the 5th or 6th? Nothing official, just get out and take over the streets in B'ham. If it's not wet of snowy, that is. If so, it could be fun to run slalom heats in the garage.

I'm waiting on my December work schedule for the time being I'm not gonna say yay or nay or otherwise, but you guys know I'm always down when I'm free.
Garage slaloming is a lifesaver in the winter, just look out for oil patches, because it will kill you.

Here's to you Michiganders! back in the 70's playing football in the snowy streets with the plowed banks being in bounds made for some great tackle games!
anyways, i'm considering organizing a midland to clare race and back which would be somewhere around 100 miles, eh? all on your wonderful trails! we'll invite LDP'ers and switch footers from around the world? make it an international event? something to consider.
Might as well make the flatlands an attraction and after riding those trails, I bet more people might consider the trails a great vacation where most people leave to go somewhere else
stay warm my michigander bros!

A 100 mile race eh? How long would that take? Like, a day?
a day? heck the record for one day is just over 200 miles! not me but those crazy dudes from Oregon and Washington State.
still trying to figure out if that 200+ was all flat.
michigan is PURE flat for these trails. I didnt hit any hills from midland to clare!

That 100 mile race sounds like a blast! Count me in. If I don't have an LDP deck yet, I will use my newly purchased slalom deck (SK8KINGS FTW!). I am feeling that cold right down to my bones. The snow is on the way and we are about to be blasted by a blizzard (of sorts). Peace dudes, I'm off to the garages......
