Michigan Sessions
Hey, my name is Peter Weinrauch and I run the GFH street team in Michigan. There are a few medium size groups of skaters in my town and just outside the area, but I wanted to make a thread in an attempt to find more Michigan boarders. I would love to host some sessions and get some DV footage and pictures. This is just a thread to spark interest and see how many people could be involved. If there is a decent response, I may be able get the GFH crew out in California to sponsor some events here in Michigan.
Check out some of the pictures and DV movies I have hosted here:

Re: Michigan Sessions
Peter-
i've been trying with all my might to find longboarders/slalom riders in mighigan for the last year or two, but there arent too many "hardcore" riders... mostly just your camups cruiser types. I've got a small crew in lansing and one rider who took off to NYC. either way if you organize anything let me know and i'll do the same for you. Im thinking of planning a get-together northwest of detroit in a few months, i'll keep you posted.

The GFH Street teams are crews of boarders who promote GFH products. The basics can be found on the GFH site at www.GFHboards.com then click on street team.

Re: Michigan Sessions
At this point I am thinking of a location to skate. My down town area is a great place especially in the late hours, but lets have every person interested scope some areas out on mapquest or just post them here if you know of some already.

Lansing sounds great. I talked to the team manager today and he is going to talk to the president of GFH about our session. I have also talked to a few other companies about this idea and they would also be willing to make the event official. As far as that goes, "making the event official", I am not 100% sure on how I am going to do that. What would you guys want to see? Should be have some competition, prizes, free stuff, etc....
Give me your input, I am making this top priority now so help out as much as possible!

lol...i'm not really good enough to compete in anything...i'd go to watch a competition though...but if you had like a cruise or something, i'd gladly go...
yes, an uber-grippy, square-lipped slalom wheel IS the best for sliding

Re: Michigan Sessions
I'm rooted in lansing and would be glad to help organize and/or help out in any way possible. Theres also a few companies (local and otherwise) that I know would most likely help out if I asked, especially if its an "official" event.
the only issue is that there's really not much for hills in this area, at all. perhaps a couple big enough for a tight/hybrid slalom if we could secure them, but i don't think we'd have much of a turnout for that unless it was planned 1-2 years in advance and ISSA sanctioned. I'd be more for a slide contest, but again, not sure how great the turnout would be.
the idea i've been kicking around in my head is an outlaw endurance race, that way anyone who rides could participate without having a specific race day setup or slide skills. Theres one neghiborhood in particular thats pretty low traffic and the neighbors are always cool. we could start out at the top of a roughly 1/4 mile hill, and end at one of my favorite slide hills too, but the course would only be 1.3 miles (not much of an endurance test, would be one hell of a sprint though).
I can scout other possible routes if this is something you guys would be interisted in.

Re: Michigan Sessions
there's actually a lot of people involved in longboarding through michigan. By involved i mean they do it. I guess the trouble comes into getting everyone together.
I think the easiest way would be to encourage people to join this website.
I would like to go skating in the Grand Rapids area this weekend. This includes Grand Haven, Spring lake, Jenison, Holland or anywhere else nearby. I have at least one buddy willing to go and I've skated with bucksaw and 3 other guys. Thats a possible 6 people if everyone is able (except carnival of chaos is this weekend so I doubt it)
I would be down for any session. I'd like to check out lansing because I know they have 2 sweet bowls in the area and I want to shred them
