Hey! Hey! The 3rd Annual Wiggle War has been designated PRIME status by the ISSA. Scha-weet. If you haven't already (you know who you are), get over to the ncdsa site and sign up.
Hmmm ... and important detail I should prolly get. The hill we ran on last year was a two-part hill. It came down a kind of gentle slope for about a block, then goes around a 90* bend and drops away steeply for a block. We ran the downhill on the same road.
But - there is another road right in the same area that is 3 blocks long and curvey. I wanna move the giant slalom event over to that road this year. It'd be a real screamer. Fun place to set out the cones. I just don't know if the cable on the timing system is long enough to reach top to bottom. But for now, baring technical difficulties, that is my plan.
gotcha..... I know someone had to put up quite the timing system for last years Cold Fusion Sizzler due to the length of the GS course, hopefully you'll be ok. Otherwise try to talk to Eddy Martinez, see if he knows what they did last year.
I'm just kickin around the idea around of making it out there, it's actually not that bad of a trip from Michigan. I'm still an "am" when it comes to slalom, so i wanted to make sure it's not an overly fast course before i try to free up the calendar.

The DH race is for fun. It's only a 25 or 30 mph hill. We go four at a time, fastest two advance to the next round. It's not a tech hill at all. One 90* bend at the halfway point. Easy. Like I said, just for grins.
That was last year. I have my eye's set on another hill in the area, longer, faster, more technical. Personally, I like riding it a lot. But I usualy do it in the wee early hours of the morning on Saturday and Sunday when there is no traffic because there is a hard, blind, 90* left turn and you're going pretty fast. I'd like to do the DH there, but there are a million houses along the way that I'd have to get to buy in to it for the road closure permit. Last year I was just too lazy.
The fun thing about last year's hill was that it was easy enough that everyone could participate and it was all alot of fun. It's also an easy hill to do outlaw, so no road closure permitting hoops to jump through. You can't see the bottom from the top, and there is an intersection at the bottom. My daughter stayed down there with her cell phone, and when we were ready to send 4 down, we'd call to see if it was all clear.
The DH race is not part of the ISSA sanction. It's just for fun - bragging rights.
Little update - 2 madison TV stations are covering the race this year: WMTV which is the NBC affiliate, and Madison CW; I forgot their call letters. Woo-hoo!
I need to get 2 more signatures to secure the road closure for the new G/S hill. I'm so excited. It's a great bombing hill, and I've always wanted to have a race there. I'm confident I will be able to wrap that baby up tonight. And if the cables on the timing system aren't long enough, we'll just use as much of the hill as we can.
Since I am leaving for Mexico Friday, I will not have the time to get the signatures on the road I had hoped to move the downhill race to. So that remains a goal for next year.
I'm gonna do the DH at the same place we did it last year. Last year we did it outlaw, this year I am gonna get it permited and shut the road down. There was a douche in a pickup truck that caused us a little grief last year.
