Skateshop Locator Thread
hopefully we can get this stickied...it's a little showcase of the midwest skate/longboard shops. basically, put the name of the shop and the city, a little blurb about them, and whether or not they meet your recommendations.
for example:
Casualties Skate and Snow, Marquette MI
carry sector9 and presque, as well as some blanks and of course the obligatory street/surf/snowboard/skim stuff. the one thing that impresses me is how friendly the staff is. you walk in, and they strike up a conversation with you. they're willing to listen and learn about stuff. they actually make you feel valuable. i recommend them!
Ground Zero Skate and Snow, Marquette MI they have a better selection than casualties, but their customer service REALLY sucks. to the point that, many times, i'll walk in with my money IN HAND and the staff just ignores me. the staff seems to be full of "dude brahs", and the owner is a creepy old dude (who looks a helluva lot like silversurfer) who seems to only be in it for teh money (and teh lulz) i do NOT recommend them
Chapter 11 Sports, Spring Lake MI amazing selection...but the staff is full of complete dumbasses. they're enthusiastic, i'll give them that...but they do NOT know their stuff. i've heard them go on about how flexy boards are great for DH "because they absorb shock better at speed", stiff boards are BAD for DH because they don't feel the road well (after discussing an evo, a DHR, and a dropspeed), and that your height correlates to how long your board should be. also, after asking them for indy trucks, they showed me carver trucks (wtf?). they are a great "run-in-quickly-to-get-what-you-need-then-quickly-run-out" store, but that's about it. i halfway recommend them...they're worth a stop if you're in the neighborhood, but don't go out of your way
RIT music, Holland MI the most impressive shop i've been in to...i can't say enough good things. the skate guy, scott, is and was a skateboarder, so he knows his ####. they carry mostly s9's, but i've seen skaterbuilts, landys, dregs, madrids, powells, and krookeds in their shop (as well as an OG sims board with gullwing sl2002's on display). they carry abec11 wheels, which is a HUGE plus... i HIGHLY recommend them
so, post up your shops, your experiences with them, and hopefully we can get this stickied as a reference for other fishers!

 Yeah yeah, screw you too pal. Teach a man to fish...
 You're assholes!
White Chocolate, Lawrence, KS
A little skate shop I stopped into when I was in need of a skate tool in Kansas, I was only there for a minute so my opinion may be biased. The shop was mostly full of clothes and shoes with skateboards towards the back and a lone Dogtown longboard hanging up, looking sad. The one guy that was in the shop when I walked in was sanding a board and ignored me for five minutes while I stood around being awkward, then was kind of short with me and got a kid that had stopped-in-and-worked-there-but-wasn't-working to help me instead of doing it himself. They might've been really nice guys if you knew them but to a person just stopping in to grab something really quick they were dicks. They kind of acted like I was an inconvenience instead of a person willing to give them money.
From this limited experience, wouldn't recommend.

Three-Sixty Board shop
couple of arbors barely stocked so they have like one longboard usually...there pretty gangster clothing like?? they sell trick decks really, dont know there stuff, and bad customer service. I was talking to my friend about shoes and i was saying my half cabs are midtops (hes new) and then this random guy behind the counter butts in and starts telling me all about how there not mid-tops but hightops.
DO NOT RECOMMEND
(next three are all close)

Launch Skate Shop
South University
Ann Arbor, Michigan

Huge amount of twig flippers, lots of bearing choices from cheap to $$$. Lots of trucks, lots of wheels, bushing gallor. Lots of clothes, tons of shoes! They will order you anything pretty fast. Great locals that are "real skaters" that own and run it. They are Not into DH but they are real friendly to the DH skaters in town! did I mention they are very competitive to mail order/internet sites They have been helping with the Ann Arbor skate park, unlike the other skate shop in Ann Arbor
I'm local, and try to buy local, yeap I reccomend them.
