Hey Guys,
I'm going to be heaeding up to Chicago and staying for a month starting on Oct.1. I have no idea where any of your hills/garages/corners/etc. are, but it would be really fun to get to skate with some people while I'm up there. Send me a PM or let me know through this thread. What sort of longboarding do you guys do most up there?

Come skate man! since the state of Illinois is pretty flat there is not much in the way of hills in chicago (closest rides seem to be in the southwest suburbs) but we are allways down to push around the city, hit some garages, whatever!
pm me, or anyone in this thread when you're in town and we can make something happen.
i'm from the palatine area and i'd be down to hit up nicole nole(spelling???) anytime! never thought about that place but now that you mention it, it'd be fun.
We've got hills alright. Funner than waterparks. We got guys that slide, bomb, dance, and generally just shred, but we just like hanging and meeting new riders to session with. No matter your skill level the fact you ride a longboard makes you cool in our book. PLEASE check our Facebook which is what we use to organize and assemble meets. Please join so we can contact you for future events and you can help assist us in building our wonderfull scene. W have a little crew who are from Arlington Heights and we will be arranging a meet near them since it is difficult for them to make our meets. We will be riding the Friday 5:30pm at Critical Mass and you are welcome to join us for a casual cruise around the city. I know I definately want to ride Lemont again as many times as posible before the chill sets in.
Anyway, check us out. The more the merrier. Justin
I'm 34 if it helps. We never thought of that. I guess I could keep checking here for updates as well and post upcoming events here too. You're still welcome to join us for Critical Mass if you'd like. I'll post any upcoming events here as well, the Facebook just makes it really easy to swap info and set up rides. That's all I use it for.
Critical Mass is held the last Friday of the month at 5:30pm at the Daley Center. It's been going on for years. The bikers meet there and do a ride through various parts of the city. It's tons of fun and a good way to get exposure and have a blast. They block off the streets downtown leading to a quite different cruise. People sometimes attach barbeques to their bikes or even live PA sound sets with loud speakers. It's one of the few times I get to see Police waving at bikers sipping off a can of beer. We chose to sit on the Picaso to make it easier to find each other in the sea of bikes. It's quite overwhelming if you've never done it, and a testament to what you can achieve through building connections, banding together, and together contributing to the awareness of alternate means of transportation. Join us.
Man, I've always wanted to do a critical mass. We have them here, but not enough people to even make a presence. I won't be there this one, but I'll definitely be at the November one. I'm not to familiar with Facebook, do I just search Chicago Longboard Society?

Damn, I wish I would have looked on here and went to that. Is anybody up for a downtown push tonight? I was thinking we could meet up at Grant Park, do a little cruise around those baby hills there, and go to some garages? If a different place works better let me know.

Wel, I just got back from basically skating all day. Grant park has some fun little Downhills, enough for some baby slalom too. Maybe I'll see some of you guys out tomorrow. Is it just me, or are a ot of skaters around here not that friendly. Maybe it comes with living in a big city, but in Austin we always at least recognise each other. If anybody wants to skate send me a PM.

I know exactly what you mean. We also feel the vibe by shortboarders even though I've ridden one since I was 7, and still do. But, when I'm out on a longboard, it's almost like I'm on a Razor scooter. Not flippy enough I guess. Even on this one occasion I passed a longboarder crossing over the bridge at Navy Pier, I put my hand out to spread the stoke and he just looked at me like a freak. But, we're working on it. We have a doozy of a race coming up this Saturday if you're interested. It's called "Landsurfing by the Lake" or also the Chicago Longboard Race. There's going to be mad prizes, a bbq, and a lot of friendly longboarders. All the info is on our Facebook page. Also Chicago Longboard Society: LandSurfing by the Lake is up with a splash page of the event and all necessary information. Look forward to hearing from you, Justin

Man, that Landsurfing by the Lake sounds awesome.
Too bad I always have my son on the weekends and that makes it hard to come out, but I hope to hook up with you all soon.
I'm just setting up a slalom rig. Anyone local do the slalom thing want to get together?

cool man. I have a two year old boy so I feel your pain. Hey, how much do you love your CLB? Oh yeah, and we're mad LDPers as well. If we ever get a chance to ride together, you can try my Roe Mermaid. It's the bee's knees.
And as far as Slalom, I'm fully down for it and have wanted to try it for a while now. But I'd feel kinda silly wiggling through cones by myself so it's been on the back burner. If we can set something up, I'm sure most of us would fully get into it. remember a nice slalom meet quite a while back here.
