Hey, enrique, welcome to CLS. Check out our facebook page and sign up to keep up to date on our weekly rides and events. My aunt lives in Hrvard so next time I head out there I'll definately give you a ring. As far as a cheap board, Check out GFH Boards and if you see something there you like, I can get it for manufactures cost for you. We have a few riders in your area so introduce yourself on our facebook page and the invites will flow. Stoked to have you aboard, Justin
Thanks for putting this together! I've been hitting the streets and forest preserves every chance I can get for a couple of years now and it seemed like I was the only person in the Midwest with a longboard. Just recently, I started seeing kids flying down my street on Sector 9s, and now I found you guys. Very cool. I'm into pushing and carving long distance and downhill or whatever. I'm riding Landyachtz boards - Dropcarve and Evo, but into trying everything out there. Looking forward to getting in as much miles as I can before and between the snow storms, and getting out with other riders. Jon in Arl. Hts.
Welcome Beerchan. We're now up to 84 members and growing. We have a page on Facebook where we can chat and set up events, you should check it out. Sign up there to keep updated on what's happening around Chicagoland. We had a meet in Arlington Heights less than 2 months ago. Nicole Knoll to be exact. And if you get a chance check out chicagolongboardsociety.com to see the last race we put on. Basically CLS was started for those exact reasons: increasing the awareness of longboarding and to create a central hub for all longboarders scattered throughout Chicagoland. We've got at least 4-5 members from Arlington Heights already and I know of another member from Palatine, so check out our facebook and introduce yourself so me and the guys can hook up with you for rides. I also have an evo but only ever take it to Lemont meets.
hey im phil (arlignton hts rider)
we sorta have a 3 perosn crew going on over here
so if u ever wanna ride hit me up

Howdy all! I live out in Batavia (Along the Fox river) and try to get out on a path here when I can.
I'll try to check this thread and try to hook up with you all sometime!
Hey, I am from the batavia area also. I was wondering if you knew about any nearby hills (worthy of riding). We've been looking all over. Anything would help.

Hey!
No, I don't know of too many real hills, but most of the streets slope down towards the Fox River. They're all like a block long and have cross streets so I don't really bother. Maybe if I learn to slide and stop.

Yeah, I know what you're saying. I hear west dundee has some nice ones.
Hey Phil (Skaskater too); thanks for calling out. I had no idea Nichol Knoll even existed-I did a drive-by yesterday and from what I could see it looks great for around here. I'll try to get a run in sometime this week. Can you ride any of the steep runs out, or do you need to slide stop on every pass? I generally get out to ride on the spur of the moment - catch an hour in the middle of the day at Busse or run to the library or whatever, but if I know a day ahead or so that I'm going out for any length of time I'll send you guys a message. Jon
I have never skated them, but there are some hills up in Lake in the Hills, just south of Crystal Lake.
The neighborhood is bordered by Algonquin Rd, Pyott Rd, Crystal Lake Drive.
I know Willow is super steep, but there is now a speed bump at the bottom.
Hilltop looks pretty cool, but ends at a fairly busy street (Algonquin Rd)
And the Cop Shop is on Crystal Lake St if I remember correctly, right by a small skate park.
Like I said, I've never skated in there, but if anyone does, let me know. I'm not really a downhiller, but it looks interesting.

Hey guys, I just wanted to say Hi. I've been into longboarding for a while, but I didn't think anything like this existed in Illinois. I'll keep up to date and maybe catch a session or two with you guys.

Nicole Knoll is super mellow and best on a mini, but as far as speed is concerned, it's a kitten. Plenty of roll out, no cars to interfere, and have once ever had to worry about stopping there. Just bomb any of them once and they'll feel like an old friend.

Nicest hills around here are all in Lemont. Once you cross the bridge into the city off 55, you'll know what I mean. It's like a huge ski resort made out of concrete. Even the High School has at least three nice runs.
