As move in rapidly approaches, I'd like to see who else is going to be longboarding around MSU's campus with me. I'll be in Akers, so if you ever see me feel free to stop me and ask if I'm Petary791.
What are some good spots? I've skated behind McDonel/Holmes and that's a pretty nice trail, but I'm wondering if there's some faster bigger runs. And are the parking garages legit? Cops/security crackdown a lot?
Lookin forward to seeing you guys.

never been there, but i've heard of massive parking garage races, skitch races, and dudes trying to run slalom with carvers and original trucks...all from that tool that works at chapter11. sounds like the scene is really well developed, albeit not on silverfish

That "tool" from Chapter 11 went for a skate with me and is nowhere near the level he says he's at. As well as the fact that the owner was no longer able to pay him so he works at a skate shop in Grand Rapids now.
But about the scene around State theres a good number of riders, and some fairly un-monitored garages if you don't overstay your welcome.
The parking garage behind the communications building is pretty solid, downhill both ways and we have never had a problem with cops there (even though it is right across the street from the police station)

Sounds too good to be true-- downhill both ways?! I'll check it out during welcome week.

Is Chapter 11 a shop up in EL? Maybe I should check it out.
nope, chapter 11 is in spring lake...the employee went to MSU.
gah, that kid was a dork. but i digress, i haven't been to lansing since i started longboarding, so i can't really vouch for much.

I usually skate around MSU/EL several times a week.
welcome week is usually the only week of the year you'll get messed with by the cops for longboarding. For the record, skateboarding is only banned on grand river and albert in the business district (between abbot and hagadorn). anywhere else they cant mess with you. for what it's worth, never once have i gotten in trouble for skating the bike lanes, even on grand river ave. west of the 'no skating zone'. One time a cop even clocked me as i was pumping along and just yelled out "14 miles per hour!"
most of the people i rode with last year that were at a good experience level (i.e. not dangerous while riding around people, can stop, etc.) seem not to call me anymore, but there are still some people around. I'd be happy to skate around any time, hit the garages, and a hit couple little spots (nothing huge but there is some fun territory)
p.s. if you're willing to go a few miles over to downtown lansing, we have an insanely long parking garage, its not the fastest in the world but definitely fast enough, and the seven levels of insanely long goodness make up for it.

I'm in Flint and will be going to a local school here. I have several friends moving into MSU this Fall though.
I'd love to set up something with all of the students in the area, GGL, who made the last post above is a good friend and I'm sure he would help out as well.
I am thinking sometime near Thanksgiving when everyone has a short break, we could set something up in Lansing, a race... a mini race?!? a push race, sliding, long free ride, etc.
I can have some stuff sent out from GFH in Cali for us. Let me know your ideas, if I hear enough we will make this official and I'll start up a thread for us.
Whats up man, I'll be living in Case hall, so the other side of campus but whatever. Yeah the scene here is pretty sweet. The cops certainly don't care if you ride around, and I've never heard of a prof getting mad for people bringing boards to class. Just to clarify there are ELEVEN garages all within sight of each other (8 on campus 3 off) 2 are downhill both ways and one connects half way down each level so you can turn more if you want. Plus there is a 6 levels (i think) spiral garage as well.
the sprial on the way out of the wharton is GNARLY, if you're regular foot you're pretty much holding a coleman slide the whole way down. no chance in hell i'd skate it without slide gloves - I've stuck it on my lightning bug with minimal drifting and you shoot out the bottom like a bat out of hell.

To be honest with you, I've been wanting to get in contact with you guys to skate. I like the whole movement you guys are doing, so maybe we can skate sometime?

Honestly, just say the time and the place and I'm there. A push race and a freeride would be awesome. Seriously, let's plan something. I'm on Facebook too if you want to talk.

Holy ####, I'm Stoked. I gotta skate it for sure. Gloves and knee pads for sure.
So seriously, if you're gonna skate, I'm pretty much ALWAYS down so Facebook me if you're serious and call me. My number's on the Facebook, and seriously-- don't be shy. I'm really looking forward to skating with some people that actually skate when they say they're going to instead of sitting around talking at the bottom of hills. Garage sesh soon?
SUPER STOKED
