    Default Michigan State Longboarders

Hey I am going to be attending Michigan State in the fall as an incoming freshman and I want to know who longboards there. I will probably be in one of the south complex residence halls. I hope to get my first longboard as graduation gift. So I will be a newbie, but I will have the whole summer to practice.

The scene's blowing up so welcome! It started off this year with me and one board kicking around like a kook, and it's pretty much evolved into groups of at very least 3 people skating the 9 garages we have almost every night. Definitely hit up the MSU Longboarding Crew Facebook Group and feel free to add me as a friend on Facebook (the name's Peter.) You're in good hands when it comes to skating. There's no bigger scene in Michigan than East Lansing/Lansing methinks.

What kind of board are you getting?

Not sure yet. I wanted a board that would be easy to commute on and could handle some hills. I was thinking of going with a loaded deck. What do you guys think?

P.S. Thanks for the warm welcome guys!

I say no to the loaded deck, look at mile high skates DOT com and view their deals.

Loaded's are way to expensive for the board.

yeah loaded's are fairly pricey.....i say its all about setup. any deck can be a commuter and still take East Lansing hills and garages, just get some good trucks/wheels. randal 180s, paris 180s, indys are all good, orangatangs and zigzags are good campus wheels....commuting and speed.

I'm not a state student, but I've been skateboarding/longboarding the area since I was a grom. People seemed to come and go a lot (not graduate but just not skate), but the group that's here now is way more dedicated than in the past. Plus, thanks to the fact we've had a free public skate park down the road for years now, the police have pretty much stopped caring about longboarders. I used to get harassed all the time, but the past couple seasons I never get yelled at any more about the anti skating laws (which were strictly enforced in the 90's/early 00's thanks to street skaters taking out windows on grand river ave) if you're not on the main business strip or a set of stairs, they can't touch you, and likely won't anyway if you're just cruising.

In other words, Lansing/E. Lansing/MSU has a good friendly scene, everyone on the fish especially.

Keep in mind there are a lot of "casuals" who won't even acknowledge you when you skate by, and have no desire to get better at skating. Signs of this are rock hard trucks, excessive resting of a foot on the kicktail, and an awkward kick. Many of these types don't want adivce, so if someone's all weird when you ask them if they want to skate, thats probably why. Or, it's Tom and he just has to study

Al, GoGreenLongboarding, knows what's up. Lol at the last part, I experience that crap all the time. They act like I don't even exist.

I would really stick away from a Loaded. Check out the Legendary Demon or Comet or anything but Loaded really.
