    Default band geeks?

Apparently we have some in here. I did all that in high school, drumline (tenors), wind ensemble (timpani and mallet percussion were my faves), percussion ensembles, symphony orchestra (we were lucky enough to have one), jazz band.

As of now Im un the University of Florida jazz band and not much else sadly.

I also love drum corps and plan on auditioning next summer (time to break out the reel feel and the doctor beat). Boston Crusaders and Magic of Orlando have camps in Florida...

Band Geeks unite. Who plays what and where and with whom?

Dang 5:30 for jazz band. We were lucky enough to have it as an actual class. It met 1st hour everyday.

Man auxilary percussion rocked. I had more fun playing crash cymbals, triangle, and tambourine than concert snare, and almost more than timpani.

I kinda miss marching and concert band. I love the band I'm in now though. Kinda a jam band, but not really. It's just rock. It seems too many bands are afraid of just rockin out.

I march with bass drum in my villages brass band. We do parades on Memorial Day and throughout the summer.

oh, ya, plus random things like tam-tams, hand percission(bongos, congas, djembres), castinets, temple blocks, and any other random thing. thats where it gets real fun. and i wish i could play timapni, but since the D-Line's timpanist is in my band, he kinda gets to play every song.

Timps are great, and pretty easy to play if you have a good ear for tuning, if not, stick to unpitched perc.

More and more drummers I see. That's kinda interesting. I guess it's the same mentality. And the never-quenched thirst of getting new gear.

Ooooo tam-tams. I cracked a Wuhan tam-tam once. Our Wind Orchestra was playing a song named "Terpsichore" by Bob Margolis. In the 4th movement there's a tam-tam part with not a fote, not a fortissimo, but 17 f's written below it. Hence, cracked tam-tam. It's a great piece of music. Very rennassance influenced. I got to play coconut shells a la Monty Python and the Holy Grail.

Im a percussionist and play in every band possible at my school. Jazz, concert, marching, percussion ensemble. I tried out for Carolina Crown this winter as well but got cut and figured id work my hands more and try out for Crossmen next year since my sister was friends with the guy second in command of their drumline there throughout highschool and college. I'm also in a crazy metal band.

I plan on going to berklee and majoring in music education with a lot of jazz and performance classes thrown in there.

I've been playing since fourth grade. Me and twan were about equal leaving middle school. Tony went to public school and I went to private. Our band sucks but its slowly getting better but I haven't really progressed much because it sucks so much. Tony is now miles ahead of me.

I play a lot of timpani. I have the best timpani technique and all that ****. I can play it better than anyone else if it weren't for the tuning. I suck ass at tuning so I'm getting away from it now and going more towards snare since I have the best rudimental skills and **** like that.

Tuning was always my weakest part of timp playing. I was consistantly flat. Postcard by Tichelli and Dance Movements by...i dont remember...but anyway...have multi-drum tune changes every few measures or so. Fun stuff.

Hopefully you'll get a chance to play "Blue Shades" by Tichelli. Very Jazz-influenced. Its fun.
