No where did I say all the aspects originated together at the exact same time, but they are 100% a part of a whole. You can argue all you want...

so some people who listen to rap use spray paint to mark walls. other people who have similar music interests see it and think it's cool, so they try their hand at it too. hip-hop has NOT annexed an art form aside from possibly close up videography of blubbery sphincters.

i AM an inner-city graffiti artist who networks with other graffiti artists and your self righteous ignorance offends me. saying graffiti and rap/hiphop are as close as you do is the equivalent of saying only stoners longboard.

My self righteous ignorance? I'm merely explaining the cultural movement.

Am I saying graffiti is solely a derivative of this social movement of the 80's? No way... but for that culture, it is very strong in it's roots. Nowadays there's really no such thing as "hip-hop" (in the cultural sense; it's meaning has basically changed to rapping), so graffiti has nothing to do with the music TODAY (keyword... which is obviously what you're basing your argument on. In that case it's definitely nearsightedness), but in the late '70's and throughout the '80's this social movement wanted to express itself and it was done so through MCs, DJs, dancing, and graffiti artists.

I don't give a rat's ass if your some self proclaimed "inner city graffiti artist"... I'm just spitting out mere facts to you whether you believe them or not...

Once again... in the '80's under the real meaning of Hip-Hop graffiti had everything to do with it. But today... Hip-Hop doesn't mean what it used to, and therefore graffiti doesn't have anything to do with it.

Stop arguing with me until you have legitimate counterargument.

I must have seen it 20+ times. Intense and brilliant.
First time I saw it it did my head in,.... now its one of my fave animated films.

Also, I don't know how to define hip hop for myself, because I can only really define "music" in terms I can be happy with. Cause I listen to more than just hip hop believe it or not and all of it comes down to this in my mind. Audible, creative expression that is spread to the masses.
