ITS MY BIRTHDAY!
OH BOY!!!!!!!!
very stoked on my early birthday (the 21st) present:
a gretsch electromatic G5129! this baby has a really smooth and jazzy tone, and a pretty versatile for blues, jazz, rockabilly, and pretty much anything you throw at it!
and an updated pic of my "quiver"

Nice. I'm quite partial to the teal green transparent myself. I've got pewter though...

i have been thinking about taking voice lessons though since i could definetly pull of a one man acoustic thing if i could sing better

the one-man acoustic thing is iffy. My band had just such a guy opne for us. It seemed like he played a lot longer than the one hour he actually played. All the songs seemed to run into each other and sound the same. I'm sure you can find a bassist and drummer somewhere. It's totally worth it.
Good luck, happy birthday, and sweet-ass guitar

you should move to nyc. everywhere you turn, there's a new band springing up. you can do a search on craigslist and find a huge list of people in search of a new gig.

thats kind of what im trying to avoid, getting lost in a scene, im more of a kick back and jam kind of guy, not very fit for a gigging band in a big city

??? sounds like you're not sure what you want. if you want to jam out with friends socially...that's all fine and good. BUT, don't expect them to take it to seriously. In my experience, no band gets focused on playing together until the fear of public performance rears its head in.

Happy birthday, money and fame are overrated.

Happy Birthday!!
That Gretsch is SWEET!!!!! Best of luck with it. I play mine every weekend.
Bands are a lot of fun. And the music business is sleazy and overrated. Do it because you dig playing, the money sucks and there's a lot of bungholery, but if you look past it, you can have fun and make a bit of pocket cash.
Also, find people that you like personally to play with. Mediocre players can always learn to play better, but great playing a$$holes will ALWAYS be a$$holes!!!

nice! ive always liked Gretsch. Seem like pretty awesome looking/sounding guitars. I couldnt afford one however so im stuck with an ibanez artcore which is good but its not the same.

dude the electromatics are pretty cheap i picked this one up for 750 after a little bargaining non american made models guitars are definetly underrated. the only real difference is the wood is a little fresher and doesnt go thru the same processes for getting rid of moisture so they're a little more suseptable to season changes, but thats it really.
right now im looking at a cheap travel guitar for the summer found this company: http://www.go-guitars.com/
from what i hear, they are absolutly incredible, you can definetly tell alot of love goes into every guitar

depending on which artcore you have, you shouldn't dog it like that. for korean made guitars, artcore's are very practical hollowbody guitars. on an aesthetic level, some of the flame tops that are offered on those guitars are unrivaled when you think about how inexpensive they are. i have an epi riviera, gibson dot, and a thinbody artcore. if i wasn't in love with my epiphone, i'd gig full time with my artcore just based on looks.
