I do sound for a blues band. Last Chance Blues Band, I'll ask Doc (Harmonica player) what he would recommend on Thursday. I do know he uses a Shure green Bullet mic, and he plays it thru a Harp King amp. Sounds OH so sweet.

ok..so ive figure this much out. standard keys are C, G(this is actually the most popular for what most people think of as blues), F or F#(these are the brighters slide guitar), D(the darker slide guitar), and E(gospel style).

and as far as harps go: honher makes the good ones below 20$. pcoket pal is for 7$, and thenyou have blues harp(played this and it is very very nice, just is wooden so it wont last long), Special 20(brighter than the blues harp, but has plasticreeds, so it lasts longer), and Pro for 18$ and the golden melody( ive heard nothing but good things about this, exept it is also wooden, so it wont last long) for 20$

what im getting is the lee oskars, for 25$. these are metal, so they last like 6 times as long, and are made ery profetionally, so they bend, shift and overblow easily. ive played it, miles better than the blues harp, my second fav.

For a standard diatonic harmonicas Hohner makes Marine Band and Blues Band and Lee Oscar makes a more expensive on thats repairable.

The Harmonica key of 'A' will allow you to play Blues in 'E' on the guitar/bass and it is realativly easy to solo over.
The Key of 'C' on the Harmonica allows you to play in 'G' easily.

They diatonic harmonica keys are usually the 4th of the blues chord progression I IV V

I only know the blues though, because I play guitar with the hamonicas on a rack.

Hope that isn't as confusing as it looks to me

A few years ago my roommate at the time was playing locally with Billy C Farlow. Billy would come over and jam with my Shawn (my roommate then). It was pretty cool. Billy would play the heck out of his harmonica and gave Shawn pointers and kinda lessons on playing. It wan't til later that I found out who all Billy had played with or opened up for. Guys like a legend or something and he was playin' in my house on a regular basis. Crazy.

dont get a chromatic unless your committed to learning all the musical theory behind it there isnt much for chromatics in tab and the chromatica's are crappy and leaky so dont bother. i would get a big river harp if you want something cheap. if you want a wooden combed one the blues harp and marine band are both good but the comb can crack or warp. good luck. and dont soak them even if told to. also the key of c is usually most versatile.
