Default What's better: ipod or ipod shuffle?

I'm getting geared up to add more tunes to my skating life. So the ipod shuffle is cheaper....is it worth or is it a waste of money when compared to an ipod?

i dont own either but i think the ipod is better. more storage (even with the mini) and it also has a screen so you can actually see what you are listening to and find songs. but if your on a budget, get the shuffle, either one is good. my .02 cents. -eric

The Shuffle is based on flash memory so no moving parts, lightweight but no screen. For $50 more($199) you get 4GB in the Mini, still relatively light and you get a screen. Mini's are actually really small so I would say it's a bargain to pay $50 more for 3 more GBs.

yea they completly different things so they hard to compare, go with the shuffle if you only need a handful of cd's worth of music, to go skate around. go with the normal if you want to have alot of songs and will be listening to specific songs.

I have both... the ipod is "better", more features/contol, but the shuttle is perfect for activities where you might take a tumble. It holds more than enough music, is easy to use and is much easier to protect. If you want a screen, get the ipod and some armor (still have to be careful with it); if you just want music, the shuttle is great.

you got that backwards...both play random (or not) - the shuffle is cheaper.

no kidding? damn...oh well, i still think that airin should get the ipod with the extra GB's. however its good to keep your options open look at other companies like creative...well thats all i can think of, but they are a good company too, some people say that they are better then apple...

I dont think iPod shuffles are worth the money at all. you can get ones that equal or surpass its memory & have many more features & not have it stuck on random.

So I went ahead and got an ipod mini yesterday....spent 9 hours trying to get it working:" USB Device not recognized"....USB drivers, Service packs, patches, uninstall, reinstall, forum tips, reboots.

Took the whole kit and kaboodle back to the shop today.... the dang thing is 'defective'.

They were out of stock - no more mini's - so I got a refund. Still no tunes taped to my ears....

Yup, I actually ordered a mini from a local mac store this evening. They are selling like crazy right now because people around here are buying them for grad gifts. Just my bad timing I guess. Always good to have a chance to work on one's patience though.

As I said in Airin's backup topic, a HD-based player (such as an iPod) is a bad choice if you plan to use it while skating. When the HD is loading up the buffer, it is very suseptible to damage from motion. Because of that I went with a flash-based player instead.

I went with the Cowon iAudio G3. It works well with Mac, gets great reviews, uses a common battery size (AA, and I plan on using NiMH rechargeables), has on-the-go playlisting, has good firmware support, and is UMS-compliant (Universal Mass Storage Compliant; means it shows up as an external HD on Mac, Linux, and Windoze). I haven't received it yet, but it gets such great reviews and has several web forums dedicated to it that I am pretty confident that it'll be great.

I was gonna go with Sandisk's new player, the Sansa, because it uses SD-cards as a way to expand the storage capacity - until I learned that the end of the card sticks out of the player - Stupid design.
