Default Songs to learn on bass

I'm learning how to play bass kinda and I'm trying to find some simple but fun songs to play. I can play some suicide machines and stuff...kinda...and I'm looking for some other cool stuff.

    Thanks.

bass is hard. try to work on your technique and the speed will come naturally. trying picking quarters, eigths, then sixteenth notes alternating between your pointer and middle. earlier in the post i think someone recommended the chili peppers. you can apply the lesson in this post to the intro to "Around the World". still too easy? find some Jaco Pastorius or Billy Sheehan tunes and try to keep up with them.

pickings alright, but it seems like the strings don't resonate as well with a pick.

yeah, thats true. i play alot of funk stuff, and you cant really get the desired sound with a pick, but they are good for other types of playing.

I cannot play with a pick. It is so hard for me because its like manipulating the string using something not connected to my body so it feels like I have less control of it.

I think I'll look into some chili peppers though.

learn to be comfortable with a pick. eventually it should become an extension of yourself, not a hinderance. in fact, a pick can perform some tasks with more speed than a single finger. in all my years playing guitar, i've become more comfortable playing with jazz picks (think of an average pick, but a lot smaller) when i pick out solos, i seem to pick in a circular direction. for me, it seems to be the most efficient. at the risk of tooting my own horn, i can shred using this technique. try it out, it's a great technique to learn.

I just started on bass too. Here's some easy stuff that sounds cool:

    Any Ramones
Old country stuff - mostly I-IV-V stuff
Rockabilly stuff is fun, don't worry about the slappin' yet
    Green Day stuff is easy
actually most punk stuff is cool and not too complicated
old Jam songs have great bass lines that aren't impossible to play

Some of Rush's easier songs, like limelight or freewill. If you want a song for a long-term goal: YYZ.

I always liked that bass "solo" thing in Please Do Not Go by the Violent Femmes.
