Nanos seem like they would be best to me though, seeing as they're flash based and not harddrive based.
a mini would be smaller and lighter in your pocket so it might have some advantage.

ipods blow. find something that doesn't require itunes, aka the new realplayer. #### apple and their retarded "user friendly" bullshit. not friendly to this user.

+1 on the iPod shuffle - the older ones are likely almost free at this point.

Re: A Skatepod?
My friend broke two ipod videos and his phone skating last winter (ice or snow sliding) so his parents refused to buy him new ones. He is rollin with the tiny Ipod shuffle which has survived through 1 or 2 high speed bails.

Re: A Skatepod?
I'd go with a nano, I use my 2gb for skating (mind you the only one I have) and it is perfect.
To bad my cheap ass head phones need replacing every month.

I completely jacked that idea (although one of the headphones didn't work at all) and I agree wtih you. I like it a lot more then the 2 head phones, you can listen to your tunes and get in your zone but still feel in tune with whats around you.

seconded on not liking the itunes. My home computer will never accept itunes again. I had a mini and a nano, and it all went to ####. It went beserk when i was in the middle of downloading a album, and it said i need to update my quicktime. I did that, but once i updated that itunes permanently froze. Whenever you tried to open it up itunes it would make hte whole computer to freeze. I tried and waited to see if any more updated versions would download, but some screwy error comes up. We even took it to geeksquad as we were still getting charged for itunes, and they couldn't even fix it I have since then started using a sandisk rhapsody e260, and i still am not pleased. It uses the shitty subscription service where every month I have to go through the process of talking to the ignorant people at realplayer as they lecture me on how to go through it. I skate with that because i could care less if it brakes.
Skate.

Re: A Skatepod?
what are some other ways of managing your music if not itunes?
What are some that will work for a mac, and what makes them better?

I was always a winamp fan, simply because it was a very basic program and didn't really use much resources.
But, not too long ago I found jetaudio which I really like, because it supports any and all media file types in existence, which is always good.
It also has a pretty good equalizer and soundeffects.
There was one bug I've noticed about it though, and I'm not really sure whether it's a bug in the latest version or if it's from a plugin I've installed. Occasionally (maybe like once or twice a week) when it changes to a new song, it'll drop the play speed to 50%, then you have to change it back to 100%. It could be a bug in the latest version, it could be from a plugin, or it could be because I pirated the "pro" version... but it's not a big deal.
Although, if you don't have the less popular file types (.flac, .ape, .mkv, .ogg, .aac etc....), there's probably not much of a benefit for you.
But, I like it. A lot.

Re: A Skatepod?
i use winamp to play music, i organize my music with folders.... you know, how people USED to organize their files?
my portable mp3 thinger i just drag and drop mp3s. plug it in, open the removable drive folder (or just let the popup open it for me) and draaag and drooop. no encoding no corrupted memory from incomplete transfers, and i can put whatever i want on it, pictures, music, movies, whatever. want to share my music/files with other people? plug it in, right drag, copy files here. windows has the drivers already. and it was like 40 bucks.
buddywolf, you might have to get a real computer instead of a mac. they're the point-and-shoot camera of the computer world.
