Iron Maiden, Slayer, A7X, 7/9/2008 last night @ SBSR, Lisbon, Portugal....
So last night I get to go to Portuguese date of the ongoing Maiden european tour...
Avenged Sevenfold, played for 45 minutes. Not enough. Left a good impression on the crowd. Rocked hard. Did their thing. Lots of people getting in touch with them for the 1st time. Hope I get to see them on a smaller venue, on a proper A7X show, soon.
The headliners, Maiden... nice show with all the usual gimmicks, puppetry, fireworks, everyone singing along and enjoying the Maiden all-ages communion. Not a big Maiden fan, so I wasn't too impressed.
I was completely blown away by Slayer. Devastatingly powerful, hair-rising no gimmicks ass-whooping barrage of sound. Awesome.
Also on the bill were Lauren Harris (Steve Harris' daughter's band). Awful. Didn't have the chance to hear Rose Tattoo.
P.S - I ended up getting a signed drumhead/drum skin, signed "on the spot" by Maiden's drummer Nicko McBrain, that he threw into the crowd. At first I went for it Frisbee style...Got a feeble grip on it. Everyone jumped in... Like dozens of hands!!! Had to wrestle for it. I'm strong like a ####### bull so...I'm looking at it as I type. I win. Nice.

Re: Iron Maiden / Slayer / A7X - Last night. AWESOME!
Cool. I used to see Nikko McBrain around my neighborhood and at concerts, he used to give drum lessons too. I once saw him at a Pantera concert... I spotted him and we had eye contact and I was thinking "is that who I think it is??" He was fairly tall, wearing a black trenchcoat and eyeglasses. It was so cool. About 5 minutes later he was swarmed by fans for autographs. Anyway glad you enjoyed an amazing show, I still have never seen Maiden live but I would love to. The older A7X stuff is some excellent metal,, and has a Maiden-like vibe. Slayer just kicks ass.

Re: Iron Maiden / Slayer / A7X - Last night. AWESOME!
I went to the Heavy MTL in june in montreal, this festival was crazy. Two days of rock/metal, but the first day was the better. Iron Maiden was part of the show with his Somewhere Back in Time tour and it was awesome. I would have like to see slayer there but Hatebreed replaced Slayer's brutality. Other bands were Lauren Harris (LMFAO IT SUCKS), Overkill, Mastodon, Dethklok, Hammerfall, Unexpect, Type O Negative and some others. Hail Metal!
