I was watching The Daily Show the other day and Coldplay was John Stewarts guest. John made sure to hammer in the point that Coldplay now has the worlds #1 album and it got me thinking. Is this the best we can do?
Each decade had its epic bands, The Beatles, Jimi Hendrix, Green Day, Blink 182... what do we have to show for ourselves now?
pop music has gone to shite. but there are plenty of other amazing bands who dont fit in with the pop genre. Radiohead and Muse are a few i can think of.

i'm afraid i can't convince you otherwise. the current hope for music is the people who still listen to the good music from like 10 yrs ago...
i'm trying to spread the word lol.

I listen to classic rock, classic metal, and death metal. It's a shame, the true talent is hidden beneath this barrier where everything is about the money. A lot of today's popular music takes no effort to create.

Welcome to the era of niche music. Now that anyone with a computer can record and distribute an album, there is a lot more diversity than ever before. So, the age of huge bands
with huge labels behind them is ending. There are still international pop stars who sell out crowds everywhere the go. At the same time, people are also digging experimental sounds that would have never been recorded before. This is a great time for music, especially if you like diversity.

That's a good point. What I was getting at (whoever said the Blink comment) is that there arent any huge universal bands that people go nuts for anymore. The ability to get at tons of different bands definately helps with that.
Dude, you obviously need to expand your musical tastes. Listen to artists like Muse, Ratatat, Moby, The Chemical Brothers, Sum 41, Fat Boy Slim, etc.

Green Day?...Blink 182?...are you serious? Putting bands like that right next to bands like the Beatles and Jimi Hendrix, is a musical sin, in the highest degree. Disgusting. Screw Coldplay.
Every generation has had trashy junk pop music, i guarentee there were people back in the 60's saying "Man i cant stand this mainstream junk". There is MOST DEFINETELY good, quality, music out there, you just have to dig a little harder to find it. Its sad, most of the greatest bands of all time werent very well known to the masses, it was like that back in the day, and its the same way now, and i'm sure it will always be that way.
I do think one of the best things to ever happen to music is..the internet, and specifically Myspace. Nowadays, a relatively unknown band can go from Nowhere-Town, USA, with damn near no fans, to all across the world and millions of fans, in a very short period of time. All due to the exposure of Myspace. And thats the keyword for bands getting out to the masses...Exposure.
Listen to The Glass Prison, These Walls, Panic Attack, and Constant Motion. I figured since they're still touring and releasing new music on a regular basis, they can be considered music of "today", although they started in the 80s...
As for pop music, well...
No actually Muse is pretty good, I'd think of others but I have no motivation to whatsoever.
