A legal way to share music. No beef against the FBI anti-piracy law. I'm actually not a downloader. I also don't hate people that DO download. I have however been looking for ways to lessen the expense of my playlist expansion. My local used CD retailer charges 8.50 for used CD's that they pay people like 3 bucks MAX for. They don't take trades either. Ideally I'd just sneak in after hours one night with a laptop and import music to my heart's content. (Not my style)
My idea for us goes as follows:
Post up what CD's you have that you would like to trade. (Of course reason for trade being because music tracks are already on your music library and/or backed up on zip disc, external hard drive, burnt cd, etc. and you don't want/need the remaining dust gathering clutter.)
Should any of us become interested we would PM the user with CD in question and preferably trade them for a CD of yours that interests said user.
We pay our own shipping.
Clear the music on your list after you no longer posses it.
Be happy and get new music!
How, may I ask do the masses feel about such a proposal?

Well, actually that last bit there does in fact make it illegal.

So we can only own a copy of music if we also own the original? Pretty traceless if we use USPS as opposed to website sharing.
Welllllll than the only reason for us to trade is cause we're tired of the music and want something else.
So we can only own a copy of music if we also own the original?
Yep.
According to the RIAA, when you purchase music, you're not so much buying the music itself as you are buying a license which gives you the right to listen to it.
If you trade the music, you don't have the right to keep a copy as you no longer own the license.
Not that I really care though.
The RIAA just spews a limitless amount of nonsensical excrement.

Ohh bullsh!t,whos going to enforce this.
Hell, back in the day we used to record music from the radio and no one ever came hunting us down.
Watch out everyone the music police are on the prowl!!
I'm interested in this. I have some old CD's that I've been trying to sell but I'll see if I can trade them with you guys for some good stuff. When I get home I'll write down a list of all the CD's I wanna get rid of.
