Me too. I have been djing raves and clubs for 16 years in Toronto
I remember you talking about putting together a mix a long time ago and distributing it amongst fishers. Did anything ever come of that?(Sorry, off topic i know)
Another old time raver here too. Last i saw was Paul Oakenfold and Underworld at the Hollywood Bowl last year.
The closest I've been to this type of music was seeing Bassnectar 2 weeks ago at ALLGOOD. Normally don't touch the stuff but bassnectar really blew my mind. No clue what subgenre he fits into though.
I'm more into the trance - psy trance, GOA trance, especially progressive trance.
But I'm not big into the rave scene - probably why I'm not as into gabber. I've been liking the Sirius Boombox channel - they have been doing a lot of mash-ups lately.
I like that you can put Trance on and either zone out, or listen to it and focus on other work while it keeps you going (which is why I usually avoid vocal trance)..
That's not to say I don't occasionally find some good gabber or hardcore, it's just not versatile like Trance is - you can relax or dance to Trance, you can only dance to Gabber.
If you were invited to a gay bar with a bunch of girls you were trying to get with, you'd make all the wrong decisions and go home embarassed and without girls.
If you didn't flat out slam the door on yourself by rejecting their invitation to begin with...
Shame!
It's funny, I used to think younger people were more open-minded, more liberal.
Now, I realize that immaturity = more conservative, in reality. Fear what you don't know...
Such are the ironies of growing up and growing cynical.
