It's better than most of what they've done since black, but it's still mediocre.
I've always loved that way metalica's songs flow, but this kept me wanting it to step up a gear, and when it did it was too little too late.
I really wish James would remember that he's got one of the best metal voices in this genre-
and stop using what's really a pretty pathetic singing style... grrr
5/10, which is actually a massive step forward...

I think metal in general is moving towards a weird hardcore sound... but metallica's subset is becoming obsoleted.

i am not a young anymore at all and i still will go to see metallica when they come around.Just because they are metallica:something that actually survived the 80s
don't really listen to anything these days by them .
every few months will get a urge to hear garage days or kill em all ,master of puppets, ride the lighting, the earlier cds.
saw them 3 yrs ago for the probably 10th time they sounded good after allot of yrs.
which is something not many bands can do.
godsmack who opened was great.
saw metallica open for ozzy yrs ago.
wow haven't even thought about that in 15 yrs ..
seems allot of bands get to artsy as time goes ,and lose that original sound edge like janes addiction and the chili peppers even ozzy. Love all there first 2 or three cds then thats it.
metal seemed to glam with guys like ratt, poison ,crue.
metallica came along at a time when there was a need for something new and had staying power.
I've just heard two different songs on Youtube. One was a little weak, but this one kinda rocks and it's pretty melodic:
Check it out before it possibly gets taken down, or make Lars happy and download it another time:
The two songs I have now heard are pretty lack luster. If I have to hear Hatfield "yyeeeeow" after every sentence in every song that he sings again, I am going to woof on the carpet.
This is why they had a problem with each other before (besides the alcohol addictions) The other band members argued about direction and or more imput.
I will not be purchasing any song(s) from their current effort.

Metallica died a while ago. Their last album was such a massive failiure, their single from that album sucked so bad. I've moved on from their kind of metal now anyway.
