    Exclamation Hip-hop is ALMOST dead

95% of "hip-hop" artists or rappers rap about the same ####:

    1. Getting money
    2. Sexing women
    3. How great/legit they are
    4. What a lavish life they lead

You've heard them on the radio: T.I., Lil Wayne, Ludacris, 50 Cent, Akon, etc.

Lupe Fiasco is the rare exception to this rule. He's a black muslim rapper who doesn't smoke, drink, or disrespect women. His songs often tell stories and have many unique allusions including:

    • Sonic the Hedgehog
    • Street Fighter 2
    • Pokemon (for real... the man's legit)
    • Robots
    • Skating

among others, while often having deep, sometimes political lyrics.

Are there any other rappers out there who don't suck ass?

Hip Hop IS dead. It has been for a long while.
Despite dope MCs like Lupe, Mos Def, Talib Kweli, Aesop Rock, Blackalicious, Ugly Duckling, Del the Funky Homosapien, Lil Wayne' (just joking) amongst others, Hip Hop died and won't be resurrected.

Mos Def is decent, Blackalicious is a damn good group too. I think it's pretty unfortunate that TI can sing that "whatever you like" song and people go nuts for it... such a lame song.

Today's rap makes me want Eminem back, at least he was able to say the things they do today in much more creative ways. The only rapper I really like at all today is T.I. because he has some kind of musical aspect to his stuff, but now he's going to jail so oh well.

DMX is some old school ####, he has some fun songs but I think the problem is most the rap today is garbage in the sense that it wont stand the test of time like other classic bands such as the Beatles, Led Zep, Run DMC, Aerosmith, Nas, etc.

95% of mainsteam hiphop may be like that, but in the grand scheme of the entire genre, those rappers only cover about 5%. you have to dig a little deeper, that's all. it's a massive genre, which is extremely unlikely to die in my opinion, because there are so many different sounds out there.
you should check out some atmosphere, cunninlynguists, sweatshop union, del the funky homosapien, rythmn ruckus, and anything of the def jux label, for instance.

There may be great rappers but Hip Hop is actually dead. Hip Hop at its heart has been killed by what it had to become to grow into what people think it is today. The elements of DJing, Rapping, B-boying, and Graffiti are still being practiced and developed, and in all honesty, are beyond where they ever were in the past. BUT they're not united like they used to be into Hip Hop. Everything is separated with occasional interminglings.

Besides all that, the fact that people call T.I. Hip Hop is proof that it's dead.
