I listen to a lot of thrashcore, grindcore and d-beat stuff.
While those genres are not exactly metal, they're certainly close relatives...

    Are you crusty?

I used to listen to a lot of metal, but lately I've expanded my music to a lot of stuff. I actually don't like much of the "classic metal" like Maiden, Sabbath, etc, nor do I like some of the newer metal bands that all sound the same or are re-hashing stuff that's been done decades ago.

But my favorite metal bands are:

    Ayreon
    Star One
    Iced Earth
    Dream Theater
    Sepultura
    Morbid Angel
    Fear Factory
    Strapping Young Lad
    Meshuggah
    Napalm Death
    Emperor
    Amon Amarth
    Gojira
    Bloodbath
    Death
    Therion

Yeah Metallica is pretty lame. None of their stuff really struck me as awesome, but the local radio station here has "Mandatory Metallica Mondays" and it's so ####### annoying.

Dude, old Metallica is the Shiz! I maintain that Master Of Puppets is one the best metal recordings ever.

metalmetalmetalmetal. I have broadened my horizons in the last 10 years, but my core is undoubtedly metal. And my heart is certainly black.

I can't forgive Metallica for St. Anger, and I don't know if I ever will.
I used to be a huge LOG fan, but the newest album felt to me it was lacking.
As for roots of metal, I do appreciate those bands mentioned but haven't ever been an avid listener. Unless Motorhead counts?

    (All previously mentioned, +)
    DevilDriver
    White Zombie
    Nailbomb (Max C, fuk yeah.)
    Artimus Pyledriver
    Cryptopsy (had to mention again)
Mayhem (that counts as roots, right)
    Brujeria

I will add more when I think of.
Artimus P. is wicked for skating, btw.

Edit: And Slayer, did anyone say Slayer?

I don't see how AP and Devildriver are bands at the "roots" of metal. Their first albums were in the 2000s.

Nailbomb had like... one EP and one album. Brujeria are just standard DM.

I never said they were bands at the roots. I was referring to Motorhead as a potential, and Mayhem. That was it. The others I was just mentioning because I like.

I've been listening to a lot of Enslaved lately. I think they are actually my favorite Norse/Black metal band. Monumetion has'nt left my CD player.
