The music industry
Hip-hop is almost dead, the jonas brothers and Hannah Montana lowered the bar for acceptable music, so there's only one option left: JAZZ!
Watch these videos! You'll be amazed 8)

That stuff's great, but i'm sayin that almost all of the "popular music", like mtv stuff, has gotten terrible.

Re: The music industry
The reason is because in our information overload culture we burn through music too quickly. If we only had records then music would be a lot of work and we wouldn't listen to/have access to a lot. Now a days we have ipods, the internet, cars, radio (satelite) etc. You can listen to music 24/7. And with torrents and p2p it's easy to get all the music you want for free, therefore we burn through all the good music, and demand too much, therefore resulting in regurgitated bullshit etc.
"Hip-hop is dead" wow, stop quoting the most used phrase in music. Underground Hip-Hop is amazing if you find it. which requires work and is awesome when you find it because it is so good and you had to work for it
Classical music is still ####### amazing cause it's old. There is better jazz music out there.
####, i don't even care enough to discuss music

You're only saying that because you're way too young to remember the Starland Vocal Band...

They've always said that about whatever's popular. Jazz used to be the crappy "modern" music that wasn't as good as the old stuff several decades ago...

Re: The music industry
I don't get how any music/art/anything-that-is-only-personal-expression can be "bad".
Sure, maybe a lot of music now has been come less technically challenging and is very much a money machine tool for some bands/artists, but that doesn't make it "bad". Also, a band doesn't have to play some ridiculously experimental/political/underground music to be good. I'll use Lil' Wayne as an example since I know many of you hate him. Being honest, I DO listen to some of his songs simply because I find them fun to listen to and I enjoy them. I'll honestly admit that he's not a very good rapper and is quite a mainstream artist, but he is sure as hell fun to dance to. Similarly, I do listen to some Nickelback. Sure, they're about as original as peanut butter and jelly, but I think their overall sound (not content, but sound) works really well, and I enjoy it.
On the opposite end, I'm really not a huge Pink Floyd fan. Were they groundbreaking? Sure. But I just don't get their music, and don't listen to it. That doesn't mean that they were a "bad" band, just that it's not my thing. It's the same thing with Hannah Montana or the Jonas Brothers or whoever you want to say is a "bad" band. Are they really just bad, or are they just not your style?
Take this for example:

That's a statue in Denver. Do I get the thing? No. Honestly, I think it looks like kidney beans piled into a penis shape, but obviously someone (or a few people) thought highly enough about it to build and display it, and so instead of being a giant penis kidney bean pile, it's art.
Bash all you want, but there's no real way to call music (or any art) "bad" in my opinion. Mainstream, successful, corny, overdone, not difficult...sure, but not "bad."
Cliff Notes: Listen to what you want and what you enjoy. 8)
P.S. - Jazz rules.

one of my pals said that there's no right or wrong way to play music; but the fact that alot of artists nowadaysdon't make music for the joy of it all, but they do it for the money bugs me.
Take Charlie parker for example. He was probably the best jazz sax player who ever lived, but he didn't even have enough money to put his saxophone in a case. He caried it in a paper bag. But parker kept playing music until the day he died, even though he made barely any cash doin it. bird loved the music, so he kept with it.
On the other hand, Kenny G. once said that music gets him good money, but he'd rather play golf all day.
P.S.- I'm glad to see someone else who also likes jazz

Re: The music industry
^ I'm not going to argue that many, many artists are in music just for the money, especially in our current era, I'm just saying that that does NOT mean that their music is "bad." 8)
I discovered Don Ellis recently...awesome stuff. I'm really diggin him.

I say the real culprit is Clear Channel Communications. They own basically all non-public radio stations. What they do is they go on the fact that for most people, if you play a song enough you will begin to like it. Every day they send out a playlist of songs that the station has to lay x amount of times throughout the day. With this method, it makes the most sense to produce music that is super easy to right because of its ridiculously simplistic and repetitive nature, because who cares if it has any artistic value if people are going to be brainwashed to like it anyway? Plus it saves money in the studio.
Anyway, just wanted to remind everybody who has mainstream music by the nut sack. Look it up if you want.

Re: The music industry
I love jazz, but it always makes me feel like I should be sitting alone in a bar late at night smoking a cigarette instead of whatever it is I'm really doing.

Jazz is the music that people who don't like any other types of music listen to. In other words it's a last resort.
ATL HARDCORE: foundation, Attila, the faceless, dead to the world.
Just check out any of those bands op. You will wish you had never heard of jazz

Ha jazz
Alright, now that's f##kin' bullSh#t. I listen to so many different types of music, it would make your head spin. Jazz is so far from a last resort, it's f##kin art, just like any other genre.
I have so many jazz records, you couldn't count them up in a million years. I don't just listen to it, I play it too
And who the f#ck are you to hate on people's art? Jazz was invented by some of the hardest working people who ever lived.
people like you piss me off so much. You're not even willing to really check out the music, but you still manage to hate on it.
Jazz takes so much f##kin brains, and so much thinking, you could never imagine. Theory, harmony, rythm, chord progressions.
The band your talkin about just plays riffs over two or three changes, while jazz usually has 2 to 3 changes per bar.
Get of your ass and listen to some jazz, and I mean listen to it; then come back and tell me it's a last resort. Listen to the rythm, the harmony, the melodies, the styles, and spontaneity of the music. I'm tired of people like you.
PS- I'll never in my life wish I've never heard of jazz.
