hmm, i doubt the music industry is going to die, though this is stirring, and sad. Maybe i'm optimistic but i hope that the music industry won't end up completely sucking.

Something else to read up on is the Loudness war.. If you thought music from older times sounded better than the stuff now, you were probably right, considering the way that record producers are mastering songs.

I think spotify is the only chance the music industry has now, I think spotify needs to be open to more non-industry artists (unsigned/indie) then it will save the music industry, because spotify is completely free to choice of the listener, then the indie artist just needs to get her name out the old fashion way of actually playing gigs and giving out demos.

But Spotify don't make enough from advertisers to pay the artists; which is a slight problem.
It's like Youtube, Last.fm etc, their only chance of survival is if a larger media company buys them out.

    Hm. Interesting.
Shitty music, production, and management/promotion have already made me overly cynical towards hard rock/heavy metal.
    Bands like

    Nickelback
    Seether
    Breaking Benjamin
    Theory of a Deadman
    etc

seem to be borrowing creativity and songwriting skills from the early 70's AM radio hitsters(or "New Country" as well), throwing in a little modern guitar sound, compressing the album's sound production (it's a hitster trick), and shipping the discs out in a shiny, tidy little package to your local Wal-mart. There it will be gobbled up by middle American fat chicks with ankle tattoos and 4 kids who love to sit around all day and burn heaters and drink Big Gulps, all the while lamenting about their lack of federal and state assistance, and how "my old man won't grow up."

Whoa. See, I told you I was cynical.
