so weve all been drooling over this for a while and due to a knee injury ive suddenly got alot of free time on my hands. so ive decided to try to make this happen. so what im looking for is some rider support to see how many people would be coming and i need a way to make them see as well. id like to seem a bit more organized than a few kids on a forum so i was thinkin a petition would be the best way to do this. so if youd be down to make the trip for such an event or you just wanna help out paste the following on a sheet and get signing bring it to sessions and send them to me(pm for address).

we undersigned would be interested in participating in a downhill skateboard race down cadilac mountain.

fill em up and send em in guys

Guys... If you have not seen Caddilac Mountain it is an incredible hill with incredible view. The pavement is perfect, it is fast, narrow and some very good turns. This would be an incredeble opportunity so if you can or even think you can possibly make it to this get a petition and get any one you know who could possibly come to sign it as well! This is a great opportunity to race an amazing road!!

Who doesn't want to a see a mountain road closed for skaters? The enormous amount of work with permits, and the town make it so it doesn't happen too often.

I agree that it's a good first step to gauge interest.. though I'm sure it's there.

I'd assume the next step would be to get in touch with whatever governmental officials preside over the spot.. board of selectpersons, mayor, town council, or whatever.. It's politics so you have to be savvy.. but it shouldn't be too hard. A petition won't mean much to them unless it's registered voters from their area. and even then it's probably not necessary.

Might be tough to pull it together for the fall, especially with it getting colder quick at higher altitudes.

it might not be hard to sanction a race over the winter since i'm guessing theres little to no attendance there and since the mountain is more or less right on the ocean it really gets no snow, leathers are warm anyways

I would suggest you reach out to the IGSA (International Gravity Sports Association) - they are a legit organization who put world class downhill skateboard races on all over the world. They might be able to help create a step by step process you would need to get the permits/permissions/insurance etc. all together to present it to the local government.

Keep us posted - I imagine all skaters in the North East would sign a petition and help back this event...

im trying to refrain from getting the igsa involved just yet because i think grassroots events are more fun and id like to have this as more of an opportunity to grow the new england scene as opposed to just shipping in a bunch of riders who are in it for the igsa points.

as i said before im trying to get the petition rolling now so its an option in case it comes to that. if they arent receptive at all i will be asking for help from wherever i can get it.

If it's just the jurisdiction of the National Park Service, how easy it's going to be mainly comes down to how nice the administrators of that park are. But regardless it's probably easier than dealing with any town. Just do what you can to keep them from saying absolutely not, and be persistent and it'll probably happen.

Email people who have already put on races or have come close to ask them what they went through. You're going to need a couple grand to get started and you have to expect to lose money on the first year. You'll have plenty of people show up if you get a closed road. That's the easy part. The hard part is finding sponsors willing to give you a crap load of money up front to pay for permits and liability insurance and hay. If you are serious about this I wish you all the luck in the world. Also before you go running to igsa you should seriously talk to as many organizers as possible. The igsa isn't the end all be all of downhill (only to a handful of people who are chasing points).

I want to see a closed cadilac mountain. I will be getting you some signatures. I suggest everyone have the following on their petitions: Printed name, Signature, City/State of Residence, any Sponsors the rider has. Also if you talk to some people to sponsor the race if you/they/me (I'd be happy to do this) could write up a little something. Thanks for the initiative.

2 important lessons i have learned... and you should learn as well.

If you build they will come... everyone wants a closed road race...

and..

Don't do your planning on silverfish.... do your planning on your own time, and all that.. don't rely on anyone but yourself.... Note the EAST ROCK LEGIT DOWNHILL RACE THREAD... people got angry he didn't have it planned out... Even though it wasn't his fault #### fell through from the township...

So all in all, i would love to see ANY road closed... and I would love to be told the details of the event, not tell you the details of any event.

Less talk more rock. As Krb said we don't need to know every step of the planning process. Support by skaters won't won't be an issue.

If your looking to demonstrate that there would be interest. Show them footage/media from one of the many events that has been held this past summer...
