Boston Bomb(idea)

Dude honestly if you pull this off and get the race going, i will drive to Boston to enter the race. This is such a great idea, hope it becomes reality, u have my word on it

Anyways I wasn't exactly looking to take charge of this event seeing as this up coming weekend is the only possible one i could do, I am having jaw surgery in a couple weeks = no skating for 3 months

but I would def help out and come watch unless you guys would wanna push it for this Saturday but thats probably way too short notice for most people

A race along the river would be cool i think its soldier field road that would probably be 4 or 5 miles if we raced into the city from Harvard to like Fanueil hall and and then we could all go to Cheers! lol

yo ive got knee surgery on monday (no skating for 4 months). lets do this over the summer when its actually fun to skate in the city. i think doing mass ave would be fun just cus its one of the main roads but it doesnt have a crazy fast speed limit

3miles wouldn't necessarily be a short race... that actually seems pretty long. My longest local DH run currently is .5mi. Give us a video or some pictures sometime, and when I get up to Boston, depending where the run is maybe we can carve it up with my brother and his friends, have a nice little skate sesh. Could you guess how fast it would be if you bombed it?

Guys, anyone in or around the city, start looking for locations (keep it in the city) and get some pictures or video and everyone can decide what they want to do. If you do have potential courses, get some guys and test it out. When we get a few options, we can all decide which to race. Maybe try to get a first small test-race in the spring sometime, and then after that try to do it at the same time (or close to) the Broadway Bomb here in NY. I think if we could find a good course that everyone would like, thats about 8mi long, and do it simultaneously with the Broadway Bomb... much stoke would ensue

Also: I'll post here about when I go to Boston. Going to be heading up for 2 days or so sometime next month, hopefully. I might be doing a skate around the city with my brother and some of his friends, and I don't think they'd have a problem with other people joining for a nice november cruise

damn these god awful surgeries lol they got you too? yea i probably would be better to set it up for next spring/summer rather than squeeze it in this fall i just hate to kill all the conversation lol
I was also thinking Harvard square - fanueil hall would be nice my only problem with having a long 8 mile race is having a small group of skaters getting split up across that distance and possibly lost on weird twists or turns, also Boston has weird elevations not quite like the mostly flat NYC so don't forget having a mile up hill would not be fun

nah you get some flyers out you could get a decent number of skaters to come out of the woodwork

but id say that spring/summer would be better

I'm not sure how fast it would be, but after the initial uphill it's pretty steep for the first half and then it's mostly gradual downhill until the end with only a few ups and downs. This time of year there's lots pine needles on the path but it didn't bother me too much. I'd love to go out and skate sometime because as of now I have zero friends who longboard.

Yah know, I didn't think of the fact that having it in spring would actually be a nice contrast to the Broadway Bomb, and having it at the same time would interfere a bit. Summer will yield less people since a lot of the college kids go home. Spring it is then?

look at newbury college, small school, my brother went there for 2 years and he loved it, especially the location

Yah, there's turns but nothing too sharp. Here's an overhead view of it with speed/hill areas based on memory, not the best but it's for the most part accurate. http://img67.imageshack.us/img67/9603/breakheart.jpg I'll have to get either some video or actual photos, don't know when I'll be able to do that though.

The Beacon/Comm Ave. idea seems like a natural, but unless you start way out in Newton or wherever its going to be like a sprint. Cleveland Circle to the Commons for a shorter race? Or Washington Street, from West Roxbury to City Hall? A north/south route could be long without leaving the city.

Re Freedom Trail: I agree that people would get confused with all the twists and turns. Skaters get lost trying to follow Broadway--sometimes really lots--and it's basically a straight line.

i agree with this guy, start at cleveland circle go downtown, everyone head the wrong way down newbury st and end at the commons
this is pretty much my commute to school but its not a bad run its all a slight downhill
