    Default Needham Open

    Hey Fellow New Englanders...

I wanted to share with you an article I wrote for Concrete Wave about the Needham Open in Needham, MA. I attended last May, and did up a review and an interview with Karl, the race organizer and founder of the Needham High School Longboardinig club. I regret to say that Michael Brook never published the article. I did have permission beforehand from him. But apparently due to space requirements, he was never able to publish the article.

I truly feel bad about this. I told all the skaters this would appear in a future issue of the mag, and it never did. I tried posting the thing here in the fourum, but it is too long. So why this post - If ANYONE is interested in reading it, please PM me with your e-mail address and I will send it along.

I think it is VERY worthy of reading, and any and all my New England friends would enjoy it. Again - I do NOT care about me being the author and trying to take any credit - simply put - it is a GREAT story, and it needs to be heard. The skaters who attended and put so much time and effort into it should get the recognition they rightly deserve.

Please PM me if your interested, and I will e-mail it to you...

    -Tim

If you ask nicely, maybe the local SF staff needs an article...

I know that Michael Brook gets a lot of unsolicited articles but when you take the time to write and then shoot photos of an even It really sucks to not see it in print....that's the long way of saying the Last Wheelabrator didn't get published either. Of well maybe the Slide Comp will get some press this March...that's got sponsors, one may even be Canadian

Michael Brook has one rule about submitting articles - let him know what it is, and what it is about, and he will let you know weather to go through with it. He gave me the thumbs up beforhand to do this, but when I submitted it, he informed me he had no room to publish it. Partly due to taking a long while to get him some photos, and he was not thrilled with the ones I finally submitted.

I can completly understand his stance. I truly was bummed for Karl and all the riders whom I informed would be getting some decent press on this. Perhaps he can publish part of it to hype the 08 event. I am also considering asking Karl if he wants me to see if Boston area newspapers or magazines might be interested in it. Again - to help hype the 08 event.

I hope to get some press in the Noteworthy section of CW for the Ride Acrss CT event. Again - I will contact Michael and ask permission first. I can tell you (IMHO) he is probably working on publishing all the Spring/Summer events right now. I think for a timely submission, you need to be 4 to 6 months ahead of the actuall date to get it published.

Thanks to all for your interest in this. If you can pass it along to any of the riders who were there, I don't have any e-mail addresses...
