Please please please schedule it for the week of the 4th of july.
I'll be there that week, and I need someone to board with,

Re: Block Island Bomb
We should start planning now - a couple of things to consider - we should plan a couple of dates - not everyone can make it on a certain date - I sugguest maybe a spring, mid summer, and fall date. Summer is probably the funnest, and will get the most people. However - the island is the most crowded during the peak months (between mem and labor day). Lots of traffic and people everywhere. Spring (late Spring) is probably good - before the crowds arrive, and to ge out there and smell the ocean air after a long winter. Fall is probably the best time to do a run. Less crowds - good climate for skating - ocean water temps are at their highest in September (for those who might want to take a break and cool off in the ocean).
I am down for the 4th of July - but my concern is the crowds. Plus many folks go away for this holiday, and may not be around. Ferry rides out there might be sold out way in advance too. I know RI is wicked packed that week - I usually avoid heading to RI that holiday weekend.
Reply with your thoughts and suggestions. The more time we have to get the word out, post flyers and get everyone involded, the more turn out we will have. Let's double the crowd we had last year!
That Guy - I am sure some folks can make it out that week. It is such a fun island to bomb...
Rbriggs - any chance Pat can join us for this annual event?

Re: Block Island Bomb
Yeah I was there last week with my board, but had no one to ride with. Missed the bomb by a few days.
Whats the terrain like? I didn't explore much, just stuck 'round my cottage. Good roads? Big hills? Mellow runs?
I'm there from the sunday before the fourth to the sunday after. If not the BI bomb, we should set up a smaller sesh to get some chill boarding in.
Edit-Im there from the 29th to the 6th

Re: Block Island Bomb
i think after the 4th would be the best. It's def. gonna be really packed on and around that day but later in the summer would be great.
A nice hot day to cool off at the beach later sound sweet.
No matter what date though, i'm down!

Re: Block Island Bomb
I will DEFINITELY be there with my crew. I can help spread the word in whatever way possible.
I've never been to Block Island...so what's the ferry cost? How long would we stay? WHERE would we stay? hahah. I don't mind tenting it on the beach if we have to.

Re: Block Island Bomb
Derek its pretty much the same as going to fishers; the island itself has a lot more hills. Plus you drive a little further to get to the ferry but it isnt bad; mopeds = awesome but expensive.

This is whatever you want it to be.
We all meet on block island and skate all day.
The 4th of july probably isn't a good time to go.
I was thinking way before that anyways.
And remeber this doesn't really have to be a one time thing.
I hope we do it a few times this years its fun.
Skate all day in the sun.
Swim in the ocean.
Whatever you wanna do.

Re: Block Island Bomb
well as long as its a weekend im 100% down, im taking 3-5 classes this summer so weekdays are an absolute no-go

Re: Block Island Bomb
Hell ya like a saturday shall be the day, you body will need sunday to rest trust me.
Last summer I skated 30 miles, some people did even more than that!
The Hi-Speed Ferry isn't running yet, but starts in early spring.
I say we go sometime early spring.

Re: Block Island Bomb
High Speed Ferry is $40 round trip from New London (that was 07 prices) - It's cheaper from Point Judith, RI - but not a high speed. Parking for the day for the Ferry is $15.
Tenting on the beach is probably a no go - not these days anyway. B & B's and hotels are Big $$ - Most of us just spend the day. We could all camp in RI that weekend though - take the ferry out for the day, head back and hang out. Burlingame is not too far from Point Judith. It would be chilly to camp in the Spring though.
The runs are mainly street cruisng with some decent down hill. Sliding does not seem too effective out there. At least Mango Man did not use his slide board last time.
A couple of tips from last time - Skating in the harbor area and town are STRICTLY FORBIDDEN - they WILL take your board. When on the island - single file, we cannot hog up the whole road. Being "rowdy" on the ferry pisses the staff off - they like to threaten you. Food and Drink are expensive - bring as much of your own as you can. Mango Man is the KING at this! There are lockers for rent - but unless you take the first ferry over, you probably will not get one.
We'll have to start looking at some dates...

You can travel the out skirts of the Island twice in one day man. Three or four if your staying on the Island. You've got a week!! Lucky devil.

Re: Block Island Bomb
From the "rowdy" crowd;
The New London ferry will warn you on both trips, the consequences of being Rowdy. They will call the cops if you don't follow the rules. Period!
Other than that no problem.
Early spring sound good. When is the first ferry out, we'll grab the fourth weekend(only to not get the "fairy" crew to work up to early in the season). The second date June 28th-rain or shine! Sept. thirteenth,eh?
Go ahead throw out more dates, better dates as they come up.
If fun where measured on how loud a group is than we can get off the charts!!
