EARTH DAY CRUISE – APRIL 22nd
GreenSkate.org 2008 has been launched. There will be an international
community cruise on April 22 (earth day) This will be the worlds
largest single day longboard cruise to promote longboarding as a renewable form
of transportation. Send greenskate.org the location as to where the ride
takes place (via google maps) along with the time where riders from the
area can meet on April 22nd and go for a ride. Greenskate would like
some feed back like pictures and the number of riders attending so they can
publish how many riders participated. Already, Canada, Brazil, Chile,
Germany, Switzerland are on board
This Greenskate EARTH DAY CRUISE is just that...anything goes....we can skate the downtown, parking garages etc...any suggestions would be great. We can also change the locations and make this an all day ride.
Greenskate wants video or pictures of anything we all do....
Update_
We now have two skate shops and some new riders on board.
Connecticut USA shops involved as of April 2, 2008
Excited to be a part of this. Get the word out, and get people involved. If it's just a few people, no one will notice, the more people, the bigger our voice.
For three seasons I use my longboard (and bike) for errands around town. I get strange looks (certain fingers, car horns and words I wouldn't say in front of my grandmother) from cars when I'm on the road.
Where are we "supposed" to be?
sidewalks where pedestrians hate us?
the roadway where cars hate us?
SZ will have some bamboo and birch decks....i'm right down the road.
-------------
I have contacted WTHN NEWS8 and other media to cover this....it's a battle to get coverage....I am also trying to get the Mayor to come out and ride a longboard.
This is a Earth day event so any help to spread the word, make posters etc works.
I also think that a bigger turn out would help the Mayor and surrounding areas see the growing longboard movement in CT and the other Northeast states. This will help our efforts to develop events for the area.
****As far as SZ people....This company is a group collaboration and my door is open for anyone to get involved. This venture was developed to form relationships with riders, artists, musicians and other companies to focus on collaboration on all types of projects, events etc.

I was trying to network locations and need to get the the city involved.....NO LUCK YET.
Once again any suggestions, help and other locations would be great....West Haven has a paved boardwalk and they let bikes, skaters use it...I could contact the WEST HAVEN Mayor's office this week.
-------------------------------
Why not have different locations all over the state....
POST all the locations online and spread the word.
I don't know where a longboarder (or traditional shortboarder) rider's official legal status resides. I do think most people think skateboarders are punks (obviously there is the whole skateboarding is not a crime) I do know that bicycles are traffic, and must obey all traffic longs in the road. With lots of talk about reduction in energy consumption, there should be (if there isn't already) a law regarding where/when/how longboarders fit in traffic.
As far as permits and places to ride, I have experience from Critical Mass rides, and it's not an officially sanctioned event, just a "coincidence" of cyclists all riding at the same spot, thus no permits are needed. For this event, I think we should not get the "OKay" from city hall. First, they are probably not going to give it any way, and we don't need streets to be closed. To borrow a quote from critical mass rides "we're not blocking traffic, we are traffic."

I AGREE, so lets just ride.... different locations all over the state....it will be cool just to have a ton of riders everywhere ripping it up and meeting each other.

Rally up your locals, and meet us in New Haven.
Can anyone suggest a good place to park for this. Do they charge meters in the evening? How about the garages, do they charge in the evening?
I think parking near the train station would be good so we could hit up the lot on our way down? I'm not sure if it has security and speedbumps... Last time I went there was a year ago. Maybe at the old middle school on the boarder of Hamden....
