Default CT Skate Boarding Laws What are They and where would i find them?

I Know the laws vary from town to town but i need just state laws. The reason is i Just got a ticket for 2 counts of reckless use of a highway by a pedestrain when i got stoped it was on sunday and i just got the ticket today for 150 bucks. I was following the pedestrain laws i was in the oncoming lane on the side just like a ped so any and all feed back is helpful

Not sure there are any state laws, like you stated - they vary from town to town.

There is a nice article in the latest issue of Concrete Wave on this subject. To find the laws it states: Search [your city name here] municipal ordinance (probably the search engine Google would work). You can also try e-mailaing Michael Brook at CW - he states at the end of the article - if you have any issues to contact him. I know SofaKing got a ticket for bombing Avon Mountain - not sure whatever happened in the end though.

Good Luck...

Closest thing I could find:
http://www.ct.gov/dot/LIB/dot/docume...etchapter3.pdf
scroll down to the last couple pages. All it really says is that skitching is illegal.

Here's the infraction they seem to have gotten you with, $150 sounds like its over the designated amount though.

CHAPTER 943 OFFENSES AGAINST PUBLIC PEACE AND SAFETY

In my experience, skateboard especially longboard legislation and laws don't necessarily exist so cops often don't seem to really know how to react when they see people downhilling or get a complaint from residents. The above law only applies to highways so any other kind of skating should be technically legal under state law.
Edit: though the laws title states highway, the writing says "use of any street or highway"
So I guess we can get an infraction for riding down any hill if we "recklessly disregards his own safety or the safety of any person"
Pretty subjective if you ask me.

Good luck contesting the ticket, you should at least be able to get it down to $100 since the max is listed at $50 per (unless they're slapping you with a bigger local fine on top of the $50 max state fine)

talking to the Stonington cops (huge dicks under most circumstances) they said I have to behave like a cyclist and travel with traffic not against it. However I was on numbered state roads

Damn dude that sucks.

Maybe its time to form a small peaceful army with a leader over the age of 30 that can help us change all this non sense.

I can't skateboard on a road?

Let it begin here.
I have no idea where to start though.
Maybe a law needs to be made letting longboards to be reconized as alternative transportation...
But how?
Someone help???

Thumbs down Re: CT Skate Boarding Laws What are They and where would i find them?

I would recommend never riding AGAINST traffic on a skateboard. Because most towns treat boards like "4-wheeled, platformed vehicles" and thus must be driven on the side of the ride with traffic, not endangering yourself or cars around you.

I get the same speech from my cops every time we ride...

Pedestrian means a person traveling on foot, walking or running.

Pedestrian - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

It says nothing about standing on a device that requires steering, Yet they lump us all together.
But we travel faster than most bicycle's.
