FOX 61 Connecticut News producer Jim Altman did a story about my company a few months back. I pitch him a few other stories about the whole longboarding scene in and around New England...Farm 08, DH riding, parking garages/underground events, etc.
They would like to do a feature story about Downhill and maybe a bit of sliding.
They want to interview riders, they want to mount cameras on to the decks to showcase the speed and want a detailed story about why you ride.
Describing what you do in simple terms to people who may have never seen it before....showcasing YOUR skills and knowledge of the sport so that it focuses on a positive side of this sport and people can understand it all. Focusing on all aspects of this...from the cops/city perspective to the all-out riding. This is a great chance to talk the talk and help city officials and locals understand it and maybe help work towards real events with better sponsorships for the future.
Keep in mind that this story goes out across the country and is pick up by other news media....Fox 61 does a great job.
Because some of you may be going back to college at the end of August, i have talked with Jim about filming this before the end of August and on a weekend so Fox news can get enough riders and support for this feature story. This story would run in September as that is when ratings are needed and they feel this kind of story would stand out.
I'm also going to need a few locations and dates so we are all clear on everything...Fox News then can commit to a date , place and time.
For this story to happen we need support and riders who want to be involved in this story....Jim will spend over a half a day shooting this story if we get everything on track and commit to it. You can also submit some video as they might like to edit more footage into the story.
-------------
...it's up to you if you want to support this...IF NOT, THEN I WILL TELL THEM NO. I can not do it alone. This is your feature news story if you want one.
Brian and Briggs, if you could help get enough riders and pick a key location that would be a great help...then we can pick a date.
At least 5-10 riders would work....but if we can get more that would be amazing and it would showcase this growing movement.
Please contact me direct so i can help organized this for Fox News. wayne@surf-rodz.com
I know this slightly out of the Connecticut area, but early august their is a "Jersey Jumpoff: Summer Madness Jam" it's happening in North Jersey, more or less right across the river from Manhattan... The Jersey Jumpoff; The Annual Summer Madness Jam!!
that's the thread.....
I don't know if that helps, there should be a lot of boarders there... talk to Ad smooth about it though.

we need to actually get things together if we wanna do that, if wheelabrator is what you guys wanna do lets get planning. Im down to do it as long as theres enough warning for me. I know someone said that wheelabrator seems "too slow" so if theres another spot, someone from around there pick it. I know you guys have plenty of spots so say the spot say the day and well get it started, i say august 10th would be good if we wanna do wheelabrator. Dont be indecisive about this guys i wanna get some good exposure for us.
This seems sad....stop worrying about spots being blown out, and speed of the hill etc.
If you guys want to stay independent thats great...there's no problem ditching this story.
I'm sure we can protect your skating spots....
I'm working on a cuban skateboarding story and i'm going to Iraq to feature a longboarding story etc....Just got back from filming a freestyle skate park story and I seem to get more support from the outside freestyle skaters than the local longboarders.
You might wonder why surfing and snowboarding events get great sponsorship and prize money....they grow a sport , not hide it.
Do what you want....if you want a story, you know how to contact me. If all you want to do is post on the silverfish forum and get nothing done feel free to do it.
It's up to you not me....fox news is down with it.
I don't think we need a massively large group of people. I don't think we need to worry about "blowing up spots." To showcase downhill to the general public through Fox61, we need good footage and quality explanations/interviews describing what it is we do. I, personally, want to showcase how easy it is to ride SAFELY down steeps and through corners that most people would deem quite dangerous. To be honest these kinds of spots aren't very abundant in our area nor do they lend themselves to large groups.
A big Wheelabrator session would be great to show the growing scene and how many different kinds of people enjoy skating. To showcase downhill skateboarding, speed, sliding through corners and speed control... well, it's kind of a different thing. Wayne - I'm only in the area for about 3 more weeks, I'm pretty much free whenever to meet up with a camera crew and show 'em what I do.

Re: Fox News 61/connecticut
My longboarding opinion certainly doesn't count considering that I am now a gimp for a year, but here goes.
How about you guys just ride some spots that have already been compromised? I feel you guys. Sucks to have a spot compromised, but until we get visibility and people actually understand what we are doing our spots will continue to get compromised. But if we ride a road that is already compromised then nothing can really happen since the deed has already been done. We might even get lucky and find that people don't have so much of a problem with it anymore. Even with visibility though some peoples minds will never be swayed. You just need to laugh in the face of ignorance and continue onwards with pride no matter what the consequences.
I would like to get down in this operation, but in the wounded soldier kinda of way. Don't really know what that would entail; maybe moral support? I am very organized and an engineer so I most certainly can be of some use. But please don't let this opportunity slip away.
