Rope Tow....Legal?

I figure its not legal...I just want to know how illegal and how much trouble I could get in.

Look at your local and state laws, you can probably find them online or at a library. Most places have laws against "Operating motor vehicle with pedestrian attached" or "Attaching ones self to a motor vehicle". Both the driver and the skater can get in trouble, so you might want to look up the laws. It's probably a misdemeanor traffic offense with a fine, but it could be worse. The only thing I found in a brief search of NY state law is it is illegal to tow a sled/sleigh/etc. behind an ATV without using a rigid connection device (IE a bar or pole instead of rope)

I ran over a kid this past spring while he was skitching. It was scary and I was glad that I didn't break him. It can happen really fast.

i got ran over a while back...which i was wondering about the rope tow. You dont get run over if your behind the car.

It was just a foot. And it was uphill. But I do know what it feels like to be near to death. I lived in Pittsburgh and I've bombed some pretty sketchy hills and had some pretty painful falls. Why does everyone feel the need to act like a bunch of overprotective mothers? Grow a pair. Put your balls on the line every once in a while. It feels good to know you have a pair.

It could warrant a "Creating a Hazardous Condition" which was on the ticket I recieved for skitching. And I advocate skitching. Its fun as hell if you can do it properly. First of all, NEVER skitch behind a vehicle; whish is something I've seen so many times and can create a bad situation for you. ALWAYS skitch on the side of a vehicle; that way you can see whats coming up ahead... and its all wind in your hair from there! skate safe.
