As far as Manhattan go, you have Central Park....Great Hill is decent,a nd there are some really fun paths around to ride and get your drift on.
Hoboken no jokin'. The guys you saw, was one of them wearing a penguin suit? Stay away from him...he's crazy.

Haha, lol. No I did not see a penguin on a longboard xD
But Central Park was my first idea too, but it was always too late when I had time. Maybe tomorrow. Does anyone know if there are good/decent streets in direction South Orange for carving?

yeah central park is fun, i live like 5 min away. the only problem is when i go during the day too many damn bikers and bladers flying toward me at 12 at night is a different story. perfect spot to practice slides.

Re: Manhattan fun spots?
I live in Harlem too, up on 130th.
I used to be big into DH, but I've found that it's next to impossible to get past 30mph anywhere on the island. My Rayne Avenger hasn't really been ridden since I got here.
I've been getting much more into slalom and LDP, as it's tons of fun in traffic, and in CP. Nobody here seems to know anything about pumping boards, slalom trucks, or wedging, so it's funny to teach them for the first time.
The Bustin crew seems to be the big deal around here; they're really into pushing, but that's really about it. I skate with some of their dudes, and it's mad fun, but it's really just a cruise, if not a fast one.
If anyone knows some places nearby to DH, I'd be down. I'd be willing to take a trek out if it's worth it.
To the OP, we should skate sometime man, it sounds like we aren't far apart.

There are some pretty steep hills in Inwood (west of Broadway near Columbia's playing field and around the park) with comparatively little traffic -- I'm currently learning to slide on them.

Re: Manhattan fun spots?
bustin is out of hoboken, and so i am.
if you're looking for some mellow hills to learn to carve on... check out jersey city. (not the roads coming down the cliffs, but rather back aways) I'm pretty sure it is prospect st. in Jersey City. it's so ever slightly downhill. you can learn to carve/cruise and footbrake and such.
Chances are you say Pat S or myself skating.
There are a lot of spots in the NYC area to skate. Check out the earthwing rip on friday nights. It's a great beginner hill.
I know plenty of spots in the area in NJ, and there is a ton of random ass #### to find too. There's some stuff up near cloisters as well.

Well, I guess at first I am going to try Central Park as so recommended here
My problem is just: At first I saw someone cruisin' down Washington Street in Hoboken
and because I don't drive here I thought that'd a cool way to get from A to B and maybe skate a bit around. Now I get more and more sucked into the whole longboarding stuff and for example wanna try sliding, but I guess my wheels are not hard enough for that.
Gravity Burner's 66mm Longboard Skateboard Wheels Extreme Outdoor Supply Skimboards Longboards Skateboards and more
in 80a.
Although I am very happy with my gravity board. I think it is good to start skating.
But that was before I got to know, that there is this nice brand Bustin...their boards look awesome, I think if I stick to longboarding =) I will think of buying one.
If my english isn't that good all the time, please excuse, it is not my native language
greetz
Could anyone recommend nice sliding wheels which are not to expensice?

its a tomb with amazing flat dancing land but there's a hill that goes down into riverside park thats a little narrow but really fast and superrrr smooth and then that leads you past a playground and if you go right past the playground there's a sick sliding hill

Re: Manhattan fun spots?
I'd really appreciate it if you could route it out on Google maps, and put up a link for the people watching this thread. I know I'm not the only one looking for speed in the city.
