glad to see some local guys on here...im originally from morristown, just moved to the city about 5 months ago.

theres some great hills in central park that ive been checking out when the weather and my schedule allows.

as a matter of fact, ive only been skating for about 6 or 7 months now. i've snowboarded for about 13 years now, and hadnt gotten the chance to get out and carve any sort of turns for the last couple. hopping on my roomates longboard returned my stoke, and im about to place an order for my own long board.

thinking about getting the S9 bamboo concave with some randall trucks, but im open to some other suggestions if you guys got em. i need something that has a little flex, and nothing thats going to get going too fast to the point where i lose control. since there are so many people always around in the city, i dont need to fall off and have my board crash into an unsuspecting by stander.

I'd be down. I've rode the hills in Central Park, they're cool. You can get going pretty good if you bomb them, but its more fun to carve and play slalom with the bikes and rollerblades

Speaking of NYC, all the guys at the Central Park race told me to sign up at freshpaved. I did but I never get the emails? Anyone else have this problem?

    Random NYC skate info:

Owl's Head opens @ 9am on weekends however it's under 16 only, until noon. By noon all the shade is gone and the effect is akin to skating in a wok. Bring water. The age restriction doesn't apply on weekdays. Free admission. The banks are big enough for a longboard.
All sessions are BMX & skate, so look out. The concrete is in OK shape but look out for deep wear grooves on the wood pyramids. Simplified subway directions: R train to Bay Ridge stop. Skate down Bay Ridge Ave towards the water. Turn right on Coloniel Rd. Park is @ the end of st.

The small park w/wood bowl @ N. Moore St. and Hudson River is open 11AM to 7PM daily, free admission. Longboards are allowed in this small, all wood, street oriented park. The bowl has pool coping and is skatable w/a longboard however there is no roll in.

Chelsea Piers is $12 for the whole day w/re-entry. Part of the street course is under a tent, otherwise there's no shade. The huge 1/2 pipe is gone, replaced with a multi mini ramp course. The overall layout is cramped, not longboard friendly. BMX allowed at all times. Subway A, C, E to 23rd. st. Head west on 23rd to the Hudson River. 212 336 6666

Central Park Drive (the loop) is closed to auto traffic on weekdays from 10am-3pm & 7pm - 10pm; Friday night at 7pm until Monday morning at 6am. From the day before Thanksgiving until the first business day of the new year, the drives are still closed on weekends, but open to auto traffic 24 hours a day on weekdays. @ the W. 72nd entrance (on the left as you enter the park) there is a small hill, good for sliding as there is almost no bike traffic.

The Hudson River has a bike path that runs along the west edge of Manhattan. Open 24 hours. Flat and uneventful but a long, low car traffic cruise is possible. There is heavy car traffic across the path at times esp. in midtown.

The Brooklyn banks are fenced in, totally unskatable.

Union Square is a total bust, con your board plus tic.

The path along the East River, starting @ 14th St. is fenced in, under renovation.

    great rundown b.

i've done the n. moore bowl on my koi which is ~43/44" it actually works :)

    more central park info:
there's a nice longish big hill in the northeast corner of the park, on the big loop. not too fast for beginners, but kind o scary when you're fist starting out. beware the angry bikers who don't understand carving...

snake hill is a crazy steep run at the dyckman subway stop on the 1 train. you ride against traffic but it's nice and wide. i can't go down it well yet, too scary for me, but the freshpaved crew does the style session there.

fort tyron park/cloisters is a nice run. not much car traffic, but the runout is onto the west side highway. plenty of stop room, but if you're out of control there could be problems...

boot and i are ready to start sliding, the 72nd st info sounds good. thanks for the heads up.

Yo, Philo, Owl's Head park sounds cool or the little wooden bowl, fancy skating there?? We should hit Central park and some skateparks when I'm over.

    What is your favourite park?

I'll send out a message using Freshpaved, like meet on ___ at ___ we plan on going to ___ and ____ and ____

    Can't wait for this
